Michigan Holiday Art Fair

Integrity Shows is producing a special Online Art Fair in December. The focus is on artists that missed out on the 2020 show season.  It will differ from virtual shows as there will be live content scheduled including live art competitions, demos, studio tours.  We'd love you to consider participating.  We will have four information sessions if you are curious.  Also feel…See More

"Well worth a try, Mark. Here in Fort Wayne I hosted a 30 person art fair as part of a neighborhood home tour a couple of weeks ago and it was well received by both artists and the public. Interestingly, the higher the price point the better the…"

Michigan Opens up (slightly) in Mid October!

Starting October 10th, larger gatherings are permitted in Michigan.  I know that the Governor did not have fairs and festivals in mind when creating the rules, but the timing is not ideal.  Sunsets at 6:30 and highs in the low 60's work for football, but less so for Art Fairs.Regardless I am looking into producing one or two depending on if I can get permission in time to move forward and if there are enough artists that would be interested. There are two of our regular events that might work…See More

Art Fair Safety

I was recently on a Zoom call with about 80 other art fair organizers.  It was quite impressive how knowledgeable and empathic they are.   Since I have about 40 years of event experience I presented some site plans and thoughts about opening safely.  Many people asked for copies, so I thought I should also share them with you all.  The basics are below or contact me if you would like copies of our individual show plans.  I have three shows coming up in the next two months, and each site (and…See More

"The park shows could work with a limited capacity if we're at 250 people or more.  If we reduce to 60 booths, figure 100 artists. That allows us to have 150 patrons.  By requiring sign up in advance, we control timing.  If people…"

Practice Safe Art - How to handle an art fair in 2020

It appears that restrictions are starting to be lifted.  By next week in Michigan, we will be allowed to have events of up to 100 people.  I am hoping to have a larger limit by the end of July when our first (remaining) show is scheduled.Below is my first draft of a letter to artists to help them prepare for the show.  I would love some feedback and suggestions.  Note that we will only have a show if it is practical under current state regulations.  (Feel free to borrow ideas, though if you…See More

Jury Criteria and transparency

Posted on March 18, 2020 at 11:34am 5 Comments

Looking back at my posts, I am fixated on the subject of creating a fair jury and clearly providing information to artists so that they can choose the best shows for their art.  For each artist, there is a different answer, including things that range from proximity to price point.

How can I provide answers that would be helpful to all of them?

The next section is very long and very detailed.  Maybe it would never be read if posted on my web site.  Still, if…

Licensed work?

Posted on June 21, 2014 at 10:09pm 55 Comments

As you might expect from my previous post, I am being extra careful to be pro-active in the jury process.  I'd love to get feedback on something from other event coordinators and some artists.

Photographer  "___________" a talented artists regular in my events has some really cool prints.  I like them enough that I have purchased a few.

Then I found an identical image at Target on a cheaper substrate.

I ask. He tells me that he had licensed the image to Target for a…

How did that happen?

Posted on June 17, 2014 at 1:00pm 25 Comments

Every few years, it happens.  A buy sell booth makes it through our careful deliberate process.  I'd like to explain how that happened, and why we can't do more about it.

A painted metal artist this last weekend at the Clay, Glass and Metal Show should not have been included in the fair.  While he was possibly an artist, the style and quantity of work he showed indicated that at least a good amount of his…

Hey Mark, it looks like to me you run some local art shows? If so I was wondering if you had the chance to give me a few tips. I've been helping with Monroe's Street fair and we are really wanting it to be a premier art show.....any suggestions?
