Tent set-up Qs

Good morning! Working on getting into my first show. I have a trimline tent, mesh and propanel walls, but I have some questions about the smaller items for set-up and need suggestions.

1.) I was wondering how many of you use a desk or counter? I've seen many booth shots without - I don't know if it's because they're removed for the booth shot, they're hidden, or no one uses them now? I do have the option to create a french wall/closet, so I can hide some supplies in there if needed. But I don't want the added expense or weight if I don't need to.

2.) Related question, does anyone use Venmo/Paypal for payment or does everyone use Square or a Square-type card reader?

3.)  I'm thinking I should just go with a freestanding, folding print bin so that I can use it with both the mesh walls and propanel walls. I plan on having some prints around the 9 x 12" size to start. Thoughts?

4.) Is a backup generator a must, even if the show provides electricity?

I appreciate any advice you can provide.

  • I have a full desk and it has been more of a pain than it's worth. If you get the smaller desk and decide you can't use it, you can convert it into a podium. Backup generators are not usually allowed at shows due to the noise. I use a lithium battery and not the marine batteries that most people use, get you an inverter and your golden to run lights. Warning, if you opt for the marine it's heavy as crap. The lithium 100 amp hour batteries are a 1/3 of the weight. I personally use square, but if you use a bookkeeping software then you want a platform that exports to that software. Freestanding print bins can be purchased cheaper than the Propanels site. They are super easy to make as well. Hope this helps.

  • 1.A folding tv tray table can work as a desk.

2.You can use Venmo, PayPal and Square. Not bad to have all options. I have seen the trend seem to be towards Venmo and Paypal, so people can just use their phones and don't have to take out a credit card.

    4. No, a back up generator is not a must. If the show provides electricity and it goes out, believe me, they will do everything in their power to get it back asap.

    5. Good Luck!
