These are so high quality that documentation was necessary to get through customs proving it is a replica. Dr. Hansen has been able to replicate the firing process that the Classic Maya used. Unfortunately, they have not been able yet to replicate the Pre-Classic Mayan method which has a heavier waxy build upon their ceramics. When classic Maya in the Mirador Basin would die, they would place a plate-like this over their faces.
