St. Louis Mock Jury results...

I went to the mock jury yesterday.  Learned a lot.  They told me I could use a more artful display with less of the smaller dogs on the shelves, making the work seemingly more special and less like a warehouse.  The wrinkled fabric never came up. I am posting here looking for any ideas to help with my display as I prepare for the final application.  Would the work look better spaced on the sides of the booth if I shot with a wide angled lens?  Would that distort other things?  anybody have any other ideas to display the small sculptures?

  • Charming work, Steve.

Ideas that I have would be to eliminate the round pedestal and the gray pedestal when you frame the shot. Also, how about some small pedestals on the long tables putting the dogs at different heights?

    • Thanks Connie!

I am definitely going to add small pedestals on the long tables.  Will remove front pedestals for my shot too as they are outside my 10x10.

  • Thanks Larry and Robert!

  • Arrange the pieces in descending direction from the back to the front; high in back; low in front using small risers or pedestals. I wrote up reports from the previous two years of the mock jury, and there are some suggestions on booth arrangements from both years. I would raise the rear table higher so nothing is on the same plane and to improve visibility.

  • Don't forget that the jurors heads are at the position of the camera. If you have the camera set up on a tripod, you can arrange the pieces by constantly checking through the camera. Arrange all the pieces facing the camera and not have them overlap from the camera position. That will make the display look less cluttered.

Getting back to the wrinkles. Anticipate different jurors at different shows each year. The three people at St Louis mock jury might not have mentioned the wrinkles but there will be different jurors when the actual happens. I would have mentioned it as something that needed to be fixed, and I was a juror last year for the mock jury.
