Artist's medium

Would you consider placing the artist's medium under their photo icon on the forum page, such as Ceramist, Painter, Sculptor, etc.?  I think it would give a better perspective to the reader when they are commenting on shows.  What do you think?

  • Thanks guys, I was weary from weathering Isaac's storms when I posted last.  I think it would make it easier, especially for those who are pressed for time or don't use computers much.  For example, unless I was very familiar with this format, if I click on your names on this page, I only get all the replies you've posted and would have to hunt for your profile.  This way it is right there.

  • Well, I was trying to make a constructive suggestion, but apparently the experts don't like it.

    • I was just poking a little fun at Sam ;-)

Actually dropping some text into the profile shot is very easy and saves typing all that stuff out each time.
  • I think I found an easy answer.  I just added a comma after my name and then Painter and it shows on each post, so it is easy to find!

  • Many times I have gone to an artist's personal page here and not found their website listed.  Actually, I can imagine the increased amount of work that would be necessary to include all this extra info on our photo icon.  Larry's idea of including the info at the end of each post is probably the best.

    • This is such a good idea, however, this is not proprietary software, especially written for this site. The site is based on a platform that I subscribe to and I don't have this option. The Ning platform serves many thousands of different kinds of online communities and I don't think many of these others have as much of a need to know this fact about the other members so it isn't something they have built into the CSS code.

Also, Nelda, not everyone has a website. The one thing that we have implemented here though is that members must post their names. We were getting way too many spammers in the beginning and we thought a policy of transparency was important.

      • It would be easy enough to use Photoshop to place the media name inside the photo itself.
  • Larry, I think you are.

And yes, all that info on each artist can usually be found on their personal page.  The icons would probably get way too large if all our info was placed under each icon.

  • I also agree with Dave.  Many times I have wished that an artist's website was also listed.  It would save a lot of "Google" time trying to find them and their work.

    • It's on their personal page if you click on their name, but only if they entered it in the web site field when they signed up.

Am I the only one who adds their web site URL (and phone number) to every post I make?
