Why I get so insulted when people call me LAZY.
Really I have a regular job and I do about 15 to 20 art fairs year. Do you have any idea why you call me LAZY. I do not mind putting overtime at work. When is time go, I go. I do good sales for my work. My commissions speak about that. I am not behind in work load. I complain about the lack of work. You still call me lazy.
I can go five months with only 5 days off between the art fairs and work and do not complain about it. I do not complain that I have not have increase in paid while you did. You still call me lazy. My work load is bigger that yours and exceptions are higher. You still call me lazy.
I do not know but there a bad joke between Hispanic and blacks. There are comments about our President.
So I can see why you call me LAZY. I know: your lack of education, ignorance, your stupidity, that what make you feel better and more reasons that are not worth my time explaining to you.
Yes, I do not make a lot of money, yes do not have to much to show for it. I can tell you everything that I have I earn. Nobody gave anything to me. I work for it and I am proud of it. As well when sit in a corner asking myself what else I can do to improve my life. GOD, please help to earn a honest meal.
But still you call me lazy.

And another thing...I tried to go and get a "real job" to get a paycheck every two weeks and to please all the people that asked me if I was working or just "doing my art" Well...It was the most miserable year of my life. I was so unhappy doing something I didn't love. I kept doing my art shows and painting and made still made more money in my shows. I just didn't take good care of my family because of course I was never home. The fact that I have my studio at home I can take care of my kids and husband. That is priceless. The good thing is that I had insurance through that job. But I rather work harder in what I love than have another "real job" that is going to make me have an unhappy life. I love creating, love my shows, love to meet other artists and I like my artists better that that people that ask me if I have a REAL JOB ;)
WHEN YOU DO WHAT YOU LOVE AND LOVE WHAT YOU DO NOTHING OTHERS SAY WILL MATTER. YOU WILL BE RESONATING POSITIVE ENERGY TO THE WORLD. AND BUSINESS AND MONEY WILL COME TO YOU.
Oscar, A little info. you can only be insulted if you let yourself be sooo just ignore what people and you can't be insulted. Yeah, My husband sometimes says, Oh ya know your dealing with artists. I just tell him to SHUT UP. I work 3 times harder then he does or ever will.
A long time ago I left my job to join my husband on the road doing art fairs. Years passed and I was working for Arts, Beats & Eats. I got a couple of my friends to volunteer to help with check-in. It must have been 95 that day, artists were coming in off the road (actually it was Katrina weekend) and the weather was wild, even in Michigan. Everyone sweaty, hauling tents, setting up (you know the drill), and my friends who always accused me of quitting my job to "have fun" suddenly "got it." They were astounded at the dedication and hard work, but also the comaraderie of the artists as they came in to start the show.
I had post in the past and still feel the same. I love taking pictures, my second art fairs and third framing pictures for people @ my regular job.
Jan why do you ask?
You could do like I do, invite them along for setup or breakdown of a local show. It's fun to watch their eyes glaze over when they figure out this is real work :-)
Oscar, why would someone call you lazy of all things???? I know you work full time plus doing your art......did the person who called you lazy know that? And, I second all of Carla's & everyone's comments above! I work weird hours and lots of them. I think because I have a little 'flexibility' in my hours there are certain people in my life that don't see me as having a 'real job'. And, not all those hours are in the studio but doing the endless paperwork, website management, correspondence, applications etc...... Chin up! Please try to ignore the nasty people. They know not what they say :(
Oscar, I get that, sometimes family members (not even my direct family) ask me "Are you working somewhere or are you "just" doing your art??" EEEEXCUUUSE MEEE???? Hahaha. I get it. And you know what, I don't care, I don't even give explanations. I used to get SOOOO MAD. I don't even get mad anymore because my mom told me once, "If you give importance to things that people say and you don't think like that, you are going to make them bigger. If you ignore it, it will go away" ("Mientras mas importancia le des al problema, mas grande lo haras") So I just do whatever my heart tells me and if they believe on me or not, it is their problem, not mine. Our art and crazy hours of work that nobody sees bc they are sleeping and We are not!! When they are all resting we are priming, painting, cutting, editing, planning, adding e mails to our data base, building our next campaign, working on our etsy store, e bay, website, whatever works! On our FB page, trying to get more likes, etc etc etc...Yes, while everybody is watching the superbowl, we're on the computer, while everybody is spending their weekends with the family, we are setting up for our shows. Sunday?? BBQ??? What is that?? Ohh no, I have my show that day...ha! Who's lazy again?????? And about those jokes, ohh my! My kids are half Mexican, half jewish so just picture that. I taught them the best of both words and they are fascinated about both cultures. When other kids are trying to put them down, they know it is because their lack of education and ignorance. They feel lucky to have 2 countries, two cultures, and so happy when they travel and are able to communicate with anybody. So bottom line. Don't let anybody affect you or offend you. It is your choice to make that happen. Cheers, now go to work before I think you are lazy. (Just kidding!)
Ruth, I think that people do not have a clue the amount of work, dedication, desire and motivation to be an artist or do what you love to do.
