What vehicle are you driving? A photo essay

The recent podcast with Michael Zavison about art fair vehicles led me to find some examples. We talked about what he drives and also how he gets a double booth and large artwork into a Chevy Silverado. 8869178463?profile=original

Melanie Rolfes and Michael Zavison on the road in their Chevy truck with a custom built top perfectly fitted for their artwork. Michael's tip when starting out at the fairs: use a paid off vehicle that you already own, take good care of it and customize it.

  • Hey, wait a minute... Does Nels Johnson know about this? It isn't what he drives its where he parks it. Usually within "dead-cat-swing-distance" of his tent. No matter what!

  • A few additional tips Michael gave me. He said it is really important to use synthetic oil and change it every 10,000 miles, 3 times a year. That is how he keeps his truck going strong with over 215,000 miles on it. Inside this truck he fits Pro Panels, Flourish mesh walls (the soft ones) and a tramline tent. His work is as large as 4 x 6, bent and welded steel, and the individual pieces are constructed to "nest" inside each other enabling him to carry enough work for two back to back shows.

  • I've seen Melanie Rolfes booth at a show before and I can't believe they get those huge pieces into that vehicle!!  They are miracle workers.
