What happen to the GROUPS

Would love to know why the people who run this site got ride of the groups.  When I go into afi the only group i get are directors and organizers.   I belonged to the southwest group and we had some great discussions we shared info.  NOW NOTHING!  Can not even find this group.  What is going on ?   Help

  • Connie, I'll add my comments because as you say, participation is what make this site work.

I, like many here, am a part-time artist. As a photographer, I enjoy(ed) the Photographer's group. As a Minnesota-based artist, I popped in and out of the Minnesota-Wisconsin group. Personally I think those groups were very, very valuable. That's just my $.02 worth.

I also admit to posting very little, but that's because I've only done a total of five shows in two seasons, so I don't feel I have a lot to add. But as time goes on I'm sure that will change. I certainly enjoy reading all the posts from those who do a lot of shows. I have learned a ton and it's given me a pretty good sense of what to expect as I venture out into the big world of art fairs.

It is your site, and you are in command of it. I know running a web site is a ton of work. But my feeling is that the various groups are very much worth having, as they give one a sense of having something quite specific to "belong to" even beyond the wonderful community of artists. If you can bring them back, I'd encourage you to do so.

    Many thanks,

    Lawrence Sawyer

  • I looked through the list of my "friends" on this site and sent them invitations when I set this group up. Most of the people who have used it in the past are not my "friends" -- so was unable to contact everyone I knew who was in the group.

  • I joined many groups way back when and I got an email every time someone made a discussion comment. I believe I clicked STOP FOLLOWING so that I didn't get email notifications all the time. But it seemed sometimes I would get an email anyway letting me know someone had posted a discussion in the group. I haven't received any emails yet from this new group letting me know of activity, and I was the first person to post a comment on the wall or whatever you call that place. I didn't create a discussion. I think I'll try that and see if Richard or others who might have joined by now will get an email letting them know of a discussion topic. The topic for this will be EMAIL NOTIFICATIONS. So if you get a notice, Richard, please comment in the thread you did get notice.

  • FYI to others in SW group. I thought I had signed up and I was getting emails, then they stopped. I found a + by invitations and rejoined. There is also a place at top of page to invite other SW artists to group. I hope that works as I sent out some invites.
  • I hadn't realized you were getting emails from being in the group. That is valuable. Thanks for that info. Stay tuned. SW group coming now -- and if all of you click in and sign up and tell the others at  your shows this weekend it will start gaining ground.
