Very grumpy today...

I am painting my studio floor so my lovely outdoor studio is out of commission until the paint dries.  What Framer Dude and I had anticipated to be a 36 hour project looks like it may be turning into a nightmare, and I am facing the next week possibly painting at my dining room table where the light sucks.  I have a commission on my easel mocking me next to its ersatz place next to the TV.

Home improvements rarely ever go as scheduled.  What should have been an easy DIY task has already led me to an aggravated call to Valspar, the possibility now of grinding up the two coats of Porch and Floor paint we've applied, and another several days painting in the dining room, and eating over the sink (well, in front of the TV)

Grumpy, grumpy, grumpy.  So what's y'all's beefs today?

  • Sounds like how I discovered faux finishing..I leaned against my freshly painted wall in my t-shirt and liked the way it looked!
  • I can remember a painting job I did on the floor of a bedroom turned studio years ago. It was a disaster, or so I thought. A friend came to visit and just oohed and aahed over the floor wanting to know where I found the "weathered" boards for the floor, she just had to have them (she is a recycle, antique nut from the word go)! Imagine her surprise when I told her that I had painted the floor and after a week of drying time the paint easily scratched off and into the wood thus the retro farmboard look. She still doesn't believe that story as her efforts to duplicate what I had achieved just never seemed to come out to her liking.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

  • LOL!  I'll just be happy with a few extra bucks so we could put in a sod lawn and forget this Sisyphean task of trying to grow a lawn in Florida...and maybe a new easel with a marine winch!
  • I think that Holmes would just throw up his hands and think that I belong on the hoarders show (since nothing is in it's proper place). Do wish that I had (as the line from 'Fiddler')-'servants day and night', ah, if I were a rich man.......
  • Wow, your house sounds like a candidate for Holmes on Homes...as for me, I spoke too soon and the "scratch resistant" paint is anything but.  We put fuzzy bumpers on the bottom of all the outdoor furniture, and they left black indentations in the paint (isn't it supposed to be dry after 4 days??!!).  Moved my easel and put a nice long sccccrrrraaaaapppe in it.  Dog's nails scratch it!!! Looks like its ten years old after four days. So yep, gotta pressure wash the two coats off, then do it right- go to Sherwin Williams.  Sigh.  Back to the living room with no light.
  • Oh how I feel your pain.....what had started out as a simple "let's move the washer & dryer upstairs", has turned into; expanding the closet to fit those two, moving a bedroom wall, so a living room wall had to be cut into for the water lines, resurfacing the hardwood flooring, regrouting the leaking shower, patching the holes in the ceiling from the shower, pulling up the kitchen floor to get rid of the speed humps that have formed from the dripping water, so oh well, what the heck, let's just rip out the entire kitchen--displacing everything to every room in the house---oh my goodness--where do we sleep? Thank the stars we have a toaster & a hot plate! But, this does mean that the refrigerator that has been over taking the dining room for the last 16 years will now actually fit into the kitchen--which might be finished by the end of June. I need some time and space to work on my jewelry---where are the powers that be, that can grant me my three wishes? Surely I have earned them by now? Give me some drugs, a nap, and maybe even a massage, and all will be well. Can't wait 'til Thursday -it's my birthday & we are going to take the day off (go to the Melting Pot, and take a picnic dessert to my grandfathers band-mate, Kay Kaisers' grave site--odd, but tons of fun). But, even through all of this, my creative mind is still trying to come up with new designs--just can't get back to my 'area'--it's full of dining room stuff! Oh well, tomorrow is another day ;-) Sorry this got so long (I think that it's the fumes from the sewer line that they are pumping outside on the street).....ah, sweet mysteries of life, so glad I found you!!
  • Really, I'm not kidding...

  • Ha, ha! "Magic" I love it!
  • The next color lighter on the paint chip was actually called Fairy Dust!  So, I suppose, yes, Tinkerbell paid me a visit!
  • Sooo. Sprinkling fairy dust works?
