Vanishing Austin and Art City Austin

ArtFairInsider member Jann Alexander was interviewed by the Austin NPR affiliate at last weekend's Art City Austin and and they talked about Jann's Vanishing Austin photography series, selling local art of local landmarks to the local citizenry, and making it as an artist in a recession. Listen to the interview and get more background on the Austin art scene at Vanishing Austin, Jann's blog.

  • Connie, great to hear from you about Art City Austin, and thanks for the link to my Vanishing Austin post. The Festival was typical with a twist this year . . . my sales total was about the same as my three prior outdoor Austin festivals, but the purchases numbered only three: all big ticket. In previous times, the least expensive pieces of art sold in great quantity. Seems to me it's a reflection of our economic times: those who have little disposable income aren't disposing of it much at all; those who have fewer financial concerns continue to collect art, no matter the price. What are your thoughts, based on festival feedback elsewhere?
