  • Thanks, Pat and Diane, for taking the time to pass the info along. It's always good to be aware of potential problems before you go to a show.

  • Hi,
I was just accepted, and I make jewelry, silver and copper. Does anyone know how jewelry does?

  • I went 2 years ago  . I also feel like Pat. The show was organized and the helpers were friendly. The hotel was nice and within walking distance. I sold work and won an award of merit. BUT look back in the posts about the show, I also had a very expensive piece stolen. There were people stealing and I was on the street where the police arrested someone. I was really sad because I enjoyed my show. I don't think it was the shows fault, they had helpers around and police were walking the show. The artist party was really nice and was one of the most enjoyable I have been to. I didn't go last year ,it has taken me this long to get over the stolen piece. My son loved the show (he goes with me in the summer) and has been pleading to go back. We took a few days after the show to camp in the finger lakes of new york and it was a wonderful time. I entered this year and have been accepted. I will just be  much more aware of the thieves and take more precautions.

  • I have done it maybe a half dozen times. The first year we almost sold out and I was enjoying the hell out of the show. I like Syracuse and the people. The show area downtown is attractive. The organizers work hard and listen to you. You know there is a "but" coming, right? They changed the traditional date a few years ago and bundled it with several other festivals in the area. So you are now competing with a music festival, an antique car show, whatever is happening that year. It cut the crowd in half. They have a non-juried show that runs at the same time a block away. Locals seem to know the difference and enjoy both venues. The committee provides a barbecue party on Friday night with nice food and wine. Some people do very well. Last year I made $300. I had to go back and check my records to make sure. Yep. I remembered mentally dropping the show from my list of regulars but I guess I blocked out how horrific it was for me. I had a great spot, thought I would break records. So, it could be that my foray into collage was not a good idea but it sold well everywhere else. I had some health problems that resulted in less inventory than usual. Believe me, I have analyzed it. SOme people around me sold buckets of stuff, some lost money. I know this is an almost incoherent response, but the tone of this sort of reflects my feelings about the show. I would say that if you aren't going to spend a lot to do the show, give it a shot. They do get you an artist rate at a nice hotel in the neighborhood.
