smart kid

A friend sent me this picture a short time ago and I was wondering why.   Until I saw that the kid had bought MY stuff.

He's probably the smartest kid in his gifted class.

But seriously folks,  anyone doing Gasparilla should consider donating art to the cause.  Your stuff goes to a special tent for kids only and parents aren't allowed to come in and influence their choices.

Of course, when they come to your booth to meet you, it's because they were dragged there by their parents.  But the looks you get can be very rewarding

  • We had suggested this to the Gasparilla committee about three years ago at a meeting with their planning staff and they took it to heart with improvements of their own. They set up a strictly kids only donated art tent.   It's the best kid art program we've seen.  The more I think about it the more fun I think it will be to bring our Kid Bin back.  "Kids twelve and under only"

When we did this before, we tried to stock it with stuff we thought kids would like based on our experience instead of just leftover stuff that didn't sell.

  • What a fun idea.  I bet kids love being able to make a selection without any parental pushing.

  •     In the past, we have experimented with a bin for kids only.  Before the recession, it went over very well.  Of course, the kids more often than not had their moms leaning over their shoulders while they made their choice.

As times got tougher, we had to pull that bin because we began to see increasing resentment from adults who wanted them for the kid price.

We may decide screw 'em and try it again.  It's wonderful to be able to connect with kids through your art.

  • This is a great shot and very cool for you. At Springfield's Old Capital Art Fair they run a similar tented "kids only" area, and the crowds are huge. Kids love it, parents love it. Last time we were there painter Scott Wilson (took one of the big prizes at Bonita recently) had a bunch of small paintings in the tent and the parents were shoving their kids in to get their hands on one. I think the top price was $10, could even have been $5.

  • This is one cause I do donate to and a couple of times kids who had bought my stuff came by to meet me.
