Rio Grande Art Festivals

Anyone done these shows?  I applied to both the Balloon Fest one (wait list) and am accepted into the Thanksgiving weekend one (indoors).  It's a two-day drive for me.  Is it a decent show?  Is it worth it?

  • Thanks, Pauline!

  • Kay:

I agree that they are very nice shows. Also we had been told by other artists that your chances improve for Balloon Fiesta if you participate in other shows, which makes sense...because then they have an opportunity to see your work in person. Good luck!

  • Thanks so much!  This is just what I'd hoped to hear!

  • I have done both of these shows, not every year but quite a few times over the past 10 years or more. I have always done well at them, and the Balloon Fiesta in particular is a lot of fun to do. Ruth Gore, who is the promoter for both shows, runs a wonderful show and treats all her artists like family. Ruth makes the rounds and introduces herself to people new to her shows, and check their work over. I think her shows are very high quality, and have never seen anything I could identify as buy/sell. The Balloon Fiesta is held inside a gigantic tent, although there are some outdoor booths, as well, at a lower price. If you get into the Balloon Fiesta, take some warm clothes and layer, because it's cold in the morning! I wish you a good time and good sales!
