Recommendation for mats and plastic sleeves

I've been working with a company for mats that I think has been fantastic. They carry most of the same plastic sleeves that clearbags do but without the terrible shipping costs, their mat prices are great, and they are very responsive. They'll cut anything to order. If you have a mat supplier, please compare with these guys and let us
know if you're getting better pricing. I've been very happy.

  • Wendy and others.  DDB is know as Diamond Die and Bevel Cutting.  They are located in a Northwest Suburb of Chicago.   I supply pre cut mats to a large photographic association and contacted DDB about a year ago for pricing and I will say that their price was very competitive to Crescent Mat board co.  I called the owner back after recieving the email quote to ask some questions.   Now mind you, I am talking about order around 3000 to 3500 mats two times a year.  The owner never returned my call.   Nor did he answer my emails.   I figured if that is his idea of customer service, I can not take the chance of ordering from him for this order.  I have made other arrangements.

Now to their credit, recently a young lady from DDB called me because she found the message and wanted to see if I was still interested.  I advised that I have made other arrangements.  It seems that Wendy has had good luck with them.  I just can't take the chance because of the committments that I have with this photo group.

  • The absolute best mat provider I've ever found is Matcutter.com.  They have everything from 8 ply museum quality archival mats to acid neutral standard 4 ply mats.  The website is very easy to order from, you see all the prices as you're ordering so you can stay on budget and the site is absolutely packed with information.  They have the mat/back/bag combo packs and pre-cut packs that ship out really fast.  I have some really odd sizes (4x28 w/ 7 openings & 7 3/4x36 w/ 9 openings) and they don't bat an eye...in fact, after you have them make a batch of custom mats for you they assign it a "design number" so when you go to re-order you can just put in this number and it pops right up so you can add it to your cart.  They don't carry as many sizes of the protective bags as ClearBags does so I still have to get some stuff from them and I cringe every time the shipping charge practically doubles my order cost!  But to be fair, ClearBags does have a ton of sizes and the bags are top quality.  Anyway, I just thought I'd share my favorite mat supplier in case anyone is looking for a well priced, reliable, high quality source.

  • Thanks Wendy for the great tip.

  • Talked to my rep and they think they can do better on pricing.  Asked them to put together bundled pricing.  Their custom matting has been quick and responsive.  In the Chicago area, I've picked up custom mats within a day or so of ordering.

  • I use Golden State too.  Best price I could find for custom matting.  AND they seem to be better quality than the other competitors I've tried.  You gotta double check their math though... one particular employee can't seem to use a calculator correctly, but they are always good at fixing their errors.

  • I've used Golden State a lot, and agree with Michelle.  Lately I've been using Bux1, and they also offer combinations.  Even if they don't have the combo listed, I think they can put together a deal for you.  Frame Destination that advertises here also has good clear bag prices, but I haven't really compared them with ClearBags.

  • You can just email them directly about it.  the price on backing board and plastic sleeves is cheaper than clearbags and the shipping is MUCH cheaper.  Damn clearbags!  The only thing that they don't have are the sleeves for smaller than 5x7

  • Hi Wendy

I looked on the link but I don't see any information on sleeves, just mat information. Is there another site that references the plastic sleeves?

    thank you
