I entered a show through Juried Art Services that was called the love film and art festival in Los Angeles April 13 & 14 and found out this weekend it was a total scam!!! I contacted the Los Angeles State Historic Park where the show was supposed to be and was informed that the park was never even booked for the show. Needless to say I am shur I can hold my breath and wait for the 440.00 booth fee back. Juried Art Services still has an entry for a fall show on there site evan when they told me 4 days ago that the show was cancelled. I talked to another artist that lost 2500.00 on this scam because she booked hotel accomidations with the booth fee with the people throwing this show. I can not believe that Juried Art Services is not responding to this. Myself and other artist scamed by this all agreed none of us would have entered this show if it was not on there site. Please forward this to every artist possible.

JAS has been saying very little and been not much help. I have no respect for them for several reasons. I went to my bank and talked to them because I paid through paypal and there response was it was over 45 days. It sounds like my bank is going to do something about it but I will just have to see, they said they would get back to me in a couple of days. I will let you know.
I just filed my complaint with the internet fraud site that Ed has provided in his blog above. Thanks, Ed. I hope that EVERYONE who applied to this show does the same. Shouldn't we all at least bombard JAS with requests to get our application fees back from them?
I don't know how many only JAS would know that and they are hidding from this one. They sent out a BS email a few days befor the show but I am shur people had to show up for it.
I've been wondering what happened. Do you have any idea how many artist's were scammed? Did JAS get notices to everyone who applied? Did anyone show up at the park?
Just an udate to anyone who might have entered the show. You can and should file a complaint at www.ic3.gov. about this show. It is internet fraud when it was done the way it was. If we let this slide we are all opening the doors to some very ugly things. Please file a complaint if you got screwed by these people and don't forget to let them know Juried Art Services facilitated this.
One of the things I really like about JAS is their responsiveness to problems. They take phone calls just about 24/7 and listen and act. It is a small business just like ours and its focus is on delivering efficient services to both their clients and artists.
The lesson we can all learn here is that when a new event shows up that we as artists do some extra diligence and check out the organizers of the event. I've gotten scammed a few times myself with events that sounded legit and exciting. I appreciate that AFI can be a sounding board for inquiries and sharing of into -- the more we share the better we can control our outcomes.
I am from Illinois and still have to go out there because I booked a show in Pasadina the following weekend and Texas the weekend after that to try and make it worth my while. I do feel sorry for the people that will show up for that one. JAS really screwed up on this one I contacted them a week ago and they acted like I was nuts when I called them.
Oops! Road, not round.
What a nightmare! Imagine showing up at the venue after investing untold hours on prep and travel, not to mention major money, only to find an empty park. What about the poor artists who are on the round and don't get the message. If they catch these con artists they aught to lock them in a room with all the artists they have scammed. No jury needed. Save court costs.
This letter just came into This letter just came to my email from the JAS CEO:
On Tuesday April 2nd, I received a phone call from the director of the Love Unlimited Film Festival & Art Exhibition to inform me that the event has been cancelled and all applicants would be notified and receive a full refund. I asked for an email to be sent to me with information for JAS to forward on to all the applicants to receive the refunds. I did not receive any further communication and have sent emails and left phone messages. As of today, it appears that no message has been sent to the applicants and we are concerned that people will travel to the show and book hotels etc.
As we have had no further communication from the event organizer, we want to ensure that every applicant knows the status and does not make travel plans. If indeed you have been contacted and everything is resolved, I apologize for this message, but feel it is necessary to err on the side of caution. If you have heard from the show or have any other information, please contact corporate@jurying.net.
