I just got a call from my credit card processing company asking if I wanted to update to a new terminal that can read chips? My understanding is that all new issued credit cards will have chips (sooner than later) and was wondering before I shell out another $500 for a wireless terminal what everyone else was doing for the short and long run . So far I have only had one credit card that I could not accept  so it has not been an issue. I assume most are using the square and was wondering how or if that will be affected? I personally dont like the square but that's just my personal preference.

  • Pam,

That's the deal - if you do not upgrade and you take a card that has a chip reader that ends up being bad, the liability becomes yours, not the credit card company's.  If you have the new reader, the liability remains on the credit card company.

New cards coming out right now have both the chip and a strip on the back.

  • I use Vantiv Select fro m 5th Third Bank and they haven't come out with a chip reader for us to use yet.

  • I use Vantiv Select from 5th Third Bank and they haven't come across yet with a chip reader for me to use.

  • Thank you!!!

  • Dinah, the battery well give a constant charge until the terminal is fully charged so it would work the same as a wall socket until the terminal battery is full.

  • Thanks anyway.  I'll send the info to my tech savvy son.  He figures things out for his luddite mom.

  • I have no idea because it seems your terminal works differently than my ipad

  • Sorry, guess I wasn't clear.  I have a verifone terminal which I intend on still using.  At a busy show I am always worried about using up the battery.  I also hate that the Terminal, not me :), goes to sleep between sales and I have to reboot it up.  I hate making customers wait, even tho they don't seem to mind.  At  an indoor show I just plug into the wall and the machine is always on, no waiting.  I was wondering if this power thing would keep it on and last for a day.

  • Dinah...I'm not sure I understand your question. I use my DB Power to charge the two ipads and our Samsung telephones that all use the Square if and when their batteries run low. The ipads usually stay on and the phones don't get used as much because they are primarily for a backup...and I do not like to talk on the phone when at a show...I  mostly let calls go to voicemail and then check for messages during slow periods...I try not to go to sleep between sales...if I do my wife gives me a swift kick in the shin.

The battery on the DB has always been more than enough power to keep everything re-charged up...and when we use it I always make it a point to plug it in and fully charge it each night if we use it

  • Do I understand this correctly?  Could I plug in my terminal to DBPower and have it stay on, not go to sleep between sales, as it does at inside shows where I can plug into wall?  If so, how long does battery last?
