Hyde Park Square Art Show 2014

Wow! What a difference the weather makes. Last year there was a lot of rain and I did only about $850. But the sky was clear this year and oh boy! Keep in mind that this is a one day show from 10 AM up until 5 PM on the first Sunday in October. The fair is celebrating it's 48th year.

But on the plus side, its a chance for my parents to visit me at an art fair. They live in the Cincinnati area. Hyde Park Square is an old neighborhood with a lot a wealth in Cincinnati.

The weather was gorgeous! A high around 60 and clear skies. Just a little passing shower around 5 PM. But, with this fair I marked my second $2K day of the year. (My first $2k day was Wednesday in Ann Arbor) And on top of that, I earned my third ribbon of my art career (My first for 2014).  I received an Honorable Mention Ribbon this year.

But I think the rain dampened my sales last year. I knew it was going to be a big day just at the number of sales I had at the begging of the show. Maybe people are noticing me more. After all this is the tail end of my third year doing art fairs. Two people came into my booth and said that my booth was the most awesome at the fair!

So, I do have to make a decision next year. Should I do St. James Court or Hyde Park Square? With the ribbon, I do not have to jury into Hyde Park Square for next year. But, since doing Ann Arbor, I want to get into bigger shows...

  • Scott, glad you had a great show.  Keep racking up those awards!  This sounds like a great one day show.

  • we could see our car from our tent... but my husband is getting a new knee so instead of walking to the car we brought the car to us.

Bill.. I didn't grow up here and had to get use to the chili.

  • Oh I parked in a closed parking lot right behind my tent! Load up and out was easy because my vehicle was right there!
  • Thanks for the "Nels" info Lynnea. I lived in Cincinnati for 20 years. We have Skyline shipped to us regularly.
  • Not sure how it was for Scott, but I drove to my booth and unloaded... parked at a nearby bank.  Not sure about some of the areas but where I was, there wasn't any room behind the booth to store stuff but the painter next to me had parked in the same lot (less than a block from us) and could go get stuff if needed.

At 5 it decided to rain a little so we were all packing up as hard as we could.  Once you had your tent down they gave you a ticket to drive up to your booth to load.  The painter next to me was hauling his stuff to his trailer before putting the tent down.  My jewelry doesn't get bothered by the rain drops.. but seriously was just a light shower.  We were packed and out in under 45 min.

People started to set up as early as 6:30 (great if you have big pieces) and plenty were still packing as we pulled out.

Since I live here, I like Goldstar better than Skyline :)

  • How was the load-in/out? Storage? Artist Parking?  Skyline Chili?

  • I was there too... great crowds and yes.. I was just under the $2000 mark.  For my time and money I am sticking with Hyde Park.  No ribbon for me, but lots of returning customers and got some calls from people who didn't buy at the show but want something.  I live in the area so it couldn't be easier!
