  • Thanks for the kind words, Connie. WOOHOO!

  • I remember well seeing your work in South Bend, Barrie. I was so knocked out by how wonderful it was and wondered what it was doing at the show. It is a nice show of good quality, but you were from far away and the sophistication level was way above what I expected. Pretty funny meeting here.

  • Oh I loved seeing you both....bot your works are gorgeous and I'm so happy to see you both thriving! It just makes the Shows so much more fun if I have art buddies to hang out with! Loved the GGAF, amazing art and great facilites!

  • My response about 30 minutes ago should have said "Thanks for the kind words, Ruth Jelema" since now we have two Ruth's commenting!

For those of you who don't know her, Ruth Thompson is a fantasy art legend. When I saw her booth, I nearly fell over tripping into her booth. We got to meet her lovely mom, also, who was assisting Ruth with the show.

Ruth, we were so happy to see you at the show! And we look forward to seeing more of you in the art fair world. Thanks so much for the wonderful sketch book and prints! WOOHOO!

We might be at Sasquan if you will, also. We'll see. Spokane is just 700 miles from our home in Wyoming.

  • Yes, Leeper Park twice. So we have met, Connie!

Thanks for the kind words, Ruth.

Chris Porter's work is photographic, she just carries it a few steps further. Her work features people, an uncommon subject in much art fair work. Last year more photography won awards. One of the judges is a photographer as well, and she photographs people. So she was probably quite critical of the photography present.

I think Nels will write a review of the show. He said he would last week in his Halifax review.

Consider this next comment my review: THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST RUN SHOWS AND BEST SHOWS RUNNING! WOOHOO!

  • This was my first time at the Great Gulfcoast Art Festival and I was blown away! I do fantasy art, dragons, knights, faeries and such, and was pleasantly surprised I was juried in. Neat to see juries are thinking outside the box. The Show had GORGEOUS art, from photography to ceramics, musical instruments to outsider art. The Dinner after the first night of the Show was astounding---raw oysters, jumbalaya, shrimp alfredo, spinach artichoke, wings, veggies and free beer and wine! An amazing spread for at least 300 people. I did well at the Show, I sold lots of prints and had some nibbles on my larger originals. Hopefully I'll jury in next year. Love the Show, they did a great job! Highly recommended!

  • Why am I not surprised that no awards were handed out for photography?

  • Thanks for posting the photos.  I noticed that your jury photo looks almost exactly like your actual booth - I really liked that.  I feel that the shows want us to be pretty dishonest in our booth shots if we want to get it and I don't like that.

  • Congratulations.

Mighty good company, Barrie, in the awards group. I had no idea this show had such quality work in it. Lots of friends of mine in that list: Steve Olszewski, Greg Strachov, Andy Shea, Charlie Gatewood, Michael Stephens ...

We've never had a review of this show. Is anyone up for it? A bunch of our group was there.

I think I have met you. Did you ever do the Leeper Park Art Show in South Bend, IN?

  • I might agree that sometimes I've felt that way about winning and then not selling. But it being the "kiss of death" is not the usual case. Some people think just the opposite, that by winning an award it will reel in the buyers. That's not the usual case, either. Selling is different than winning.

    Here's our booth jury image.

And here's how the booth looked the week prior to Pensacola at Halifax Arts Festival in Daytona Beach where we won an even bigger award.
