I don't want to be an alarmist, but if you are in this show you might want to reconsider this year. There have been three flash floods in Manitou Springs this summer and the show is along Fountsin Creek. The problem is the up stream Waldo Canyon burn area from last year's fire. There is nothing to hold back runoff from thunderstorms, and it rushes down the canyon. There is an article in today's 08/11/13 Denver Post about the prospect for more flash floods. Also, CNN has an on line video of Fridays flood that killed one, three still missing.

  • Rick Bainbrige, who lives in Divide, CO told me he heard the venue had been changed to a different park. Also heard from Facebook friend that the canyon got hammered again with last nights storms and US 24 was closed.
  • My heart goes out to everyone in Manitou Springs. Hopefully, the organizers can come up with another venue for their art show.

  • This is run by Commonwheel Gallery whose basement was flooded. If in the show I would suggest calling and leaving a message if necessary. I think for the safety of the artists they would be canceling the show.

  • Here's a link to the Denver Post flooding photos.  http://photos.denverpost.com/2013/08/10/manitou-springs-flash-flood...  I am in the show... will wait to see what happens. They may have to cancel the show. Because of the burn area, several experts have said that they expect these flash flood to continue for the next 10 years.... very sad.

  • I know this area well, but even so I was shocked by the video of the rushing floodwaters carrying pickup trucks downriver.  I'm surprised that the show is still on, frankly.
