Celebration of the Arts in Summerlin, NV

Last weekend of Sept. 25 & 26 did a show in Summerlin, NV. called Celebration of the Arts Las Vegas. First note is that everyone is given a corner. Set up and tear down is a bear, you have to bring your work in by dolly from a parking lot. She does provide motorized carts, about 3. She also will drive one for you. If every promoter did what tamara does for the artist, life and shows would be so much easier and less stressful. Porta potties are convenient. Weather was a little warm, if you have a portable fan bring it. It is in a park, no electricity. She had a separate section for food which was plentiful. She did have entertainment in the food section. The one thing you have to do in NV is pay sales tax before you leave the show. As far as sales, they were down by about 1/2 from two years ago. but last year 2009 the show was cancelled because could not get a sponsor to help with costs. The show was not crowded like in 09 but they were there and seems that some people were selling. they have a contest where people can buy a square on sidewalk and put a design, that helped with the crowds. I would do this show again because i like the way i was treated, and it is only 4 hours from my home. i did stay with a friend so that helped with the cost of doing the show. Also I like warm weather shows not extreme heat but comfortably warm.

  • I looked up your work and like it.  if you would like advice be willing to share. if you go to boltpeople.com you can get my email and it will not be so tranparent.   if i want to know about shows i get ahold of my other artisty friends and ask.   i  have not gotten that much info from this page cause most of the artists are from the east and that is where most of the shows are.   i have a feeling that you are doing west coast artist shows in palm springs and burbank.   you may want to come east to AZ and NM  with your colors.   and your bio  said you won an

emmy  i am impressed.   one other thing  Zapp is  not the only way to go.

  • I live in Los Angeles. Good to know about the Boulder show, thanks. Oakhust is "the Gateway to Yosemite" I'm in a gallery there and the town is having a big artwalk event the first weekend in Oct.

I would have to look up the Palm Springs and the Burbank shows, but if you use Zappplication, that's where I got them. I have nothing to base my choices on except convenience factors and price to participate. The LA market for fine art hasn't been good for a while, so I do need to venture away from home. This will be a "learn as I go" experience. Nice to have tips along the way.

  • i have been at this since 1990.  so been sort around   who is doing palm springs and burbank.   curious to know where oakhurst is.   Boulder city is still open but i would not bother since the jury fee is around $100.00 or even more.   the show used to be a good show but they have gone thru so many directors that the show has taken a dive.  A LOT of buy sell.  This last director last year said she was going  to clean up the show.  never happened.     i guess i should ask where do you live.   i am in AZ  and yes i use zapplication
  • No, so far I applied to Summerlin, Palm Springs, Burbank and will be in Oakhurst for Art Trails. I'm so new to this that I didn't want to over-commit. If Boulder City is recommended, I'll certainly look into it if it's still open.

Thanks. Evidently they require sand bags, so I was going to get them there.I subscribe to Zapp to get the listings for the shows, have you used them?

  • Bring weights and bring a lot of water  it could be very hot out there   did the show last year and it was ok  but they skipped a year so we will see    this is the first time for this promoter  are you doing art in the park in boulder city
  • This is going to be my first show. I'm looking forward to an exciting weekend and hopefully some sales. I'll be sure to have plenty of prints available. Any other suggestions?

  • i make little people out of nuts and bolts price range is 40-200. i have a friend who paints on windows and he did very well. the person in back of me did paintings and did not sell a thing. not sure about high end work. vegas is really hurting in this recession and it shows in the shows, that i have attended.
  • Sounds like a fun event to do, Steve. What is your media and would it be worth it if someone had higher expenses to do this event?
