  • sure, Dan ... connie@artfaircalendar.com

  • It appears I can't, sorry. If you send me your email address I'll give you my thoughts. dan@danbondroff.com
  • I'll message you if I can. I'm having trouble on this device.
  • Dan, I keep thinking about your opinion here on this. I understand your skepticism, would you or anyone else who lives near think of contacting the organizer and telling him about your background and serving as a consultant? If we need new shows and we need them to be good, people who are new to our particular business can really use good input.

Twice I actually got employment as a consultant (and really I wasn't looking for a job) when I called a new show organizer to ask questions about their plans. I was pretty surprised at that. The smart ones know they need to know more. Just an idea.

  • Thanks Connie.  I don't go to many shows anymore, too much of the same thing at show after show.  It's interesting that I don't think there are that many shows close to  Miami and Dan, who lives there also, thinks there are too many.  I guess when you come from Amdurland, you are used to living within an hour of 20+ shows a season.

  • Thanks for chiming in here, Geri. You would be the resident expert on this region. I know this is a good shopping area and the demographics are there. Yes, they are also going to Coral Gables ... not a bad neighborhood there either. I hope it works.

  • I'll believe it when it works.
  • Dan, the same group that is doing the Falls show is doing the Coral Gables show.  Considering it is a bedroom community, if there is any interest in art, the show would do ok, the population is there.  I didn't understand the layout since it seems to be in the parking lot along 136th and not within the mall.

The Palmetto Bay show was that time of year but it was ruined by moving it out of its original location. It was doing well until then.   I totally agree about the Pinecrest Gardens show, I haven't gone in years.  Too small and not the best in quality.

I have to respectfully disagree with you about saturation.  I wouldn't compare Art Basel to any of the shows that are usually discussed here.  Art Wynwood is closer to Basel.  The couple of times I went to Art Deco weekend, it was more like a flea market.  I wouldn't put Coconut Grove in the same category as Basel.  Or any of the other shows I mentioned above.

I'll give them credit for positioning themselves after Las Olas to get more artists that may venture down to Florida early.

  • No repros allowed. Zapp info doens't show award package, but info states show has them.

  • $395 for an off season first year show in Miami? For $100 I might try it. In the Park with Art was nearby and no longer exists. Pinecrest Gardens has one down the street in season and is too small for me to consider. South Miami has 2 shows. A group in Coral Gables is also starting a new show this year. There was one in west Miami last year (maybe it was the year before). A few years ago there was one at Bayfront Park. We get a lot of these one year shows for $400+ that are gone the next year. Add in Art Basel week with its dozens of satellite show, Art Wynwood, and Art Deco weekend, Miami is very saturated. I live here. I only do Coconut Grove.
