Call for Artists: 17 events from Amdur Productions

This is a special edition of our Call Amdur logofor Entries. Listed below are seventeen Midwest area professionally run art fairs by Amdur Productions.

Headed by Amy Amdur, these events exploded on the art fair scene 29 years ago when the Port Clinton Art Festival appeared in the affluent community of Highland Park, Illinois.  Since then Amy has continued to produce and organize nationally recognized festivals in high-profile suburbs and popular metro areas.

Amdur's hard work and unparalleled eye, coupled with the dedication of her staff and a strong marketing outreach have made these art fairs a destination for artists and art buyers from the Midwest and around the world.

  • Connie,  I think if it's just "Call for Artists" without being a personal post by "Connie Mettler" then it will be clear it's coming from the show.  Greg Lawler sends out collections of email blurbs from shows which state at the bottom  "from the organizer."

I think you're in a difficult position if you post personal opinions about shows that are advertising clients of AFI.

And, back to Greg Lawler and AFSB, I also think it's problematic that shows promote and advertise their AFSB ratings.  I think their needs to more separation.  For instance, Consumer Reports prohibits any manufacturer promoting their CR ratings.

  • Good eye, Will. In actuality these calls for artists should be marked as advertisements and I have not been noting that and I've been wrestling with how to note them as such. The writing is usually a combination of the event organizers and my spin.

Do you have any suggestions on the best way to mark them as advertising? Doesn't seem that This is an Advertisement should be in the headline...

  • I'm curious about these "Call for Artists" postings on AFI.  They are posted by Connie, but read as if written by, as in this this case, Amdur Productions.  Who wrote, for instance, "Amdurs hard work and unparalleled eye......", etc.  Connie or Amdur?  Are these paid advertisements?  The editorial lines seemed blurred here.  Forgive me, but I'm a Journalism major, and I notice these things...

  • Amy hires jurors who look at the work online, one time each, on their own time. After the jurors have scored all the applicants, Amy's team also looks at the work and makes the final determination as to who gets into the shows. Your slides get looked at once for the 16 shows + Port Clinton.

  • Amy should create a bundle, apply to all 17 shows and get a free booth.
