Big, Really Big Prize Money Awarded at Mainsail

This past weekend the last of the big Florida art fairs of the spring season took place in St. Petersburg. Mainsail Festival of the Arts is very popular with artists with the ability to win prize money. The Best of Show award and $10,000 went to mixed media artist Rocky Bridges. Then there are 9 Awards of Excellence for $1500, let alone the 10 Awards of Distinction for $1000, and even more. Read the story at: TambaBay.com and make plans to apply yourself next year.

  • We appreciate hearing about this. Can't seem to find any info on Mainsail 2010. The deadline is today for the 2011 show; I think we'll just go ahead and apply and see what happens!
  • Thank you so much, Christina, for this report. I really appreciate your taking the initiative to do this. Any time you have something to contribute it would be great!
  • I was at Main Sail, not as a showing artist, but as a patron, on Sunday afternoon. The prize monies were fantastic and those who won were very pleased. One of the winners of the $750.00 was a Bradenton artist, so it was nice to have a local artist win. As I wandered through the event I talked to the artists. They said sales at this year's event were way down compared to previous years. Some artists, i.e. sculptures, painters, and photographers said they had sold nothing all weekend, some had sold very little. Most of the jewelry artists were doing fairly good, making their expenses back and some extra, one even said she was doing quit well. Thought you would like to hear a comment from someone who was there.
