Art Show Reviews - Just Curious

I am through with summer shows in Colorado and I did six shows this year. My medium is leather. I wrote six reviews for Art Show Reviews and to date two have been posted. I wrote blogs about four and they went up right away. It's going on three weeks now that the other four reviews remain in limbo. Blogs get the information out fast but the nuts and bolts about a show are in the review. I put a lot more stock in individual medium specific reviews than I do in magazine show rankings. So, I am curious about how long it is taking you to get your reviews posted? The banter on this site is fun and informative but when it gets down to making a living, the reviews should be getting more attention in my opinion. I'm a planner and I am starting work on what shows I want to apply to in 2013. Some apps are out as early as December for Colorado shows, but where are the reviews? I'm not a tech geek, but if the system can't handle the flood of reviews, maybe the system needs to be changed to meet the demand. How long is it taking for your reviews to be posted?Dick Shererwww.sherersaddlesinc.com

  • Warren, as Richard said, these sites are free to the users, somehow we need to be able to recoup our effort and expenses, therefore ads, and also as it is a free site we can't invest in serious dedicated software, we are copying, pasting and typing in new info.

But I like your other ideas for improving the site and will see if they can work with the template software we are using. Thanks for this input.

  • Warren, the ads are what help to keep AFI viable -$$$$. I put up with them on an IPad with same problem. Easy enough to close them and get back to business. I havenot had the problem of finding date of show or date of comment. Stay tuned for more. Yes, I hope more will. Use this valuable resource rather than a rambling, but fun to read blogs.
  • I understand what Richard is saying - as a new afi member I had been trying to read show reviews under the show review heading (grouped by state and so on, and using search terms). Silly me! As there is not much there and I of course found much more info searching the blogs. I think Richard's question lies in the fact that this is the case. Yes it would be easier for anyone trying to get show info if it was indeed all in one place with a heading called Show Reviews, but the we would be lazy lol
  • Thanks Connie. I think the good that has come out of all of this Is a Discussion on how various artist review and select their shows. I'm sure my method, which has worked for me,will be different than others I hope the community will post. There is nothing more important in my mind after making money than to help the new people coming up. I did this with wet behind the ears geologists in the field so guess it was ingrained for my art career.
  • Hi Richard. I know your initial question was about our site ArtShowReviews.com. This is one site where I have hired someone to keep all the info up to date, add the shows, check the links, verify facts and is not as easily automated as our other sites. That admin has been unavailable to work for a couple of weeks because of several issues but all the show info should be up this week and we're working on a solution so this slowdown doesn't happen again. My apologies to you and thanks so much for all your time sending in the information.

  • Hey Nels et. al., are you up to a challenge instead of banter? New discussion " How Do You Research Shows?"
  • TYPO, SORRY.  SPELLED 955, MEANT 95%.

  • Richard, not meaning to dis you.  The info I gave in blogs about shows like St. Louis, Ft. Worth, Naples, etc. is relevant and useful.  It s timely and frankly, better info than 955 OF THE STUFF THAT GETS WRITTEN ON THIS SITE.  ME. I AM ONLY 68 WITH 38 SUCCESSFUL YEARS AT SELLING IN THE TOP SHOWS OF AMERICA.  DONE MORE THAN 1700 OF THEM AND MAAGED TO WIN MORE THAN 400 CASH AWARDS AT THEM.  I LOOK AT THINGS CLOSELY, ANALYZE THEM AND MAKE HELPFUL AND INCITEFUL INFO.  YOU JUST GOTTA BE PATIENT AND GO FIND IT.  THERE IS TOO MUCH EXPECTATION ON THIS SITE BY NEWBIES WHEN THEY POST THINGS LIKE "OH, PLEASE TELL ME THE TOP FIVE SHOWS TO DO IN FLORIDA IN THE SPRING."  YOU WILL ALSO NOTICE THAT THEY USUALLY GET ZERO FEEDBACK.  SORRY, I HIT THE ALL CAPS KEY WITH THAT LAZY FINGER OF MINE.  HOPE THIS IS HELPFUL.  NELS.

  • Nels, I spent 22 years as a research scientist and I know something about how to do research efficiently. I am 69 and still put in 16 hour days in my studio. That's not being lazy. I have been doing art shows for over 20 years since I retired and I am financially successful at it, thanks to the research that I do. My beef is that there is a system on this site that makes the research more efficient and it is not getting the attention it deserves. Are are old blogs the most up to date? I appreciate your work as I do any prior researcher, that is what knowledge is built on. But, without access to the most recent information in a timely mannor, one is not up to date. This is not about anyone being lazy and if you knew me you would not have made that comment. I am letting it pass as I want to maintain good relations with all on AFI. Sounds
Ike you are getting back to being your old self. LOL
  • Gee, Richard, I guess you are one of the ones too lazy to do a little research.  Bet you never bothered to check out some of my older blogs which are chock full of info.  There is a reason why I was voted a title for two years in a row on this site.  Do some research!  When we started in the biz years ago, there was nothing like this out there, it took me years to find out some of the info that is now available at your fingertips.  Don't be so lazy.
