Ann Arbor State Street Art Fair

Hello All

I have been accepted to this show. I have never shown at this event. I am trying to find current reviews from artist who have. Everything I find is years old. I am feeling this is not a very good show from a selling standpoint. Seems like most complain about low sales. Just wondering if anyone would like to help me decide.

Thanks

Joe

  • How would you compare the different sections / shows to the Ann Arbor South University show / section?

That would be S University, E University & Church streets?

  • I am doing the original show (Street) as well this year, please stop by and say hello. And the good news, they won best art fair poster from Sunshine Artist Magazine, which will help the visitors. The  organizer is very easy to work with, and friendly.

  • I'll be there. Wish us both luck -- I've never done it either!

  • Thank You replying. I will be coming off of a large show in Madison WI The weekend before. Hard to decide. But the overall costs for the Ann Arbor show it rather high. With parking and hotel.

  • It depends on which show you are in, there are 4 shows all held on the same dates.  The State Street section is divided into two promoters, both seem to be higher end artisans.  I have never done State Street, but I have several friends that have.  I have always done the Guild show down south on Main and Liberty.  It is ALWAYS one of my best shows of the year with good sales, commissions for future work and after show sales.  I would estimate my gross from this show is always around 10 to 12 grand by the end of the year. My friends on State Street have had mixed results, from great to horrible.  I will tell you if it is 95 degrees in town that weekend, it is 110 degrees on State Street and that always hampers sales.  It is a hot , long hour hard show to do.  Price points are important, but you could (and I have) made sales of over $1000 for a single piece at the show.  Take a fan, swamp cooler or something to combat the heat, make sure your tent can survive 60 to 70 mile per hour winds, because storms have come up quick and heavy, but the good news is they usually leave as quick as they come and the customers come back quickly too so you only loose the time of the storm. I think Ann Arbor is a great town and one of the few shows that still gets good buying crowds.  Good luck!
