clay sculpture, and sometimes paintings and drawings
Years in the Art Fair Business
I did a year or so in the 1990's, RI summer and FL winter, but have been an artist in business on and off for many years.
First show ever
My eighth grade after school art class group participated in a local sidewalk art show when I was 12. Deland, Florida, waaay back in the 1970's.
What are the best things about art fairs
Lifestyle, travel, selling my work in person, talking to the buyers and lookers, working in between the shows to make more stuff, setting up the business, opening each day, having someone bring me coffee on a chilly morning, sharing stories and ideas with fellow artists, deciding to try something new and having it be successful, earning a living with my own artwork, and being grateful everyday.
Best show ever and why
The best is yet to come.
Worst show ever and why
First show ever, mentioned above. I was twelve. Our class did batik and we each had these great hanging colorful sheets blowing in the breeze, and I was very proud and happy. I was so confident I knew I'd win a prize but when the judge came buy she picked up a corner of my crazy abstract thing and said "Ugh!" I was crestfallen. I was TWELVE years old for pete's sake! It didn't stop me from becoming a professional artist though. Now, when people say "ugh" I can say "And ugh to you too. Enjoy the day!" Hmmm. Maybe that was my best show, after all.
Who referred you to ArtFairInsiders.com? Please be specific.
Wasn't a "who" exactly. I've been doing my diligent online search for shows because I want to put myself out there starting this year. Just googled various permutations of "art fairs and festivals" and eventually found ArtFairInsiders. Looked interesting. And here I am.
