Selling prints

Hi all,

First let me say what a great resource this site is.  I've found lots of useful information already.

I have not yet sold work at any art fairs or festivals.  There are some things I'd like to learn more about before I take the plunge.  One of the most important to me is the status of prints in juried shows.  It seems that many shows do not permit prints, and others permit only limited edition prints.  I'd like to concentrate on selling non-limited-edition prints.  Are there many juried shows that permit this?

  • Hello Nathan and welcome. If you spend a little time looking around the web you will find thousands of Art and Craft shows all over the country. While it may be a lot of work looking through the apps, you aught to be able to find some shows where you can sell your prints. Good luck.

    • Thanks Jacki! Unfortunately, nobody says "reproductions welcome", and I wasn't sure if shows that did not specify "no reproductions" allowed them or if they just assumed that everybody knows you don't sell prints at art fairs...
      • Shows that don't specify "no reproductions" either don't care or understand that it's difficult earning a living only selling originals.

        • Thanks again, Larry!
  • The word prints in your medium is considered reproductions in the show prospectus. Look for applications that don't specify no reproductions.

Look at the Howard Alan shows. They have about fifty art shows around the country and most get good traffic.
