ROAD-WARRIOR TALES- NELS

Ok.  I am starting a new thread which will be on here on a weekly basis.

It s going to cover my discoveries being an on-the-road artist who does 35 shows a year on a regular basis.  This will not cover my experiences at art shows.

This will be more about my discoveries of places, people I meet , and just the general vaguries of life that I confront on a daily basis.  Believe me, I confront life on a daily basis in a totally different world then most of you.

Hopefully, this will be an enriching experience. Replete with interesting characters and full-life experiences.

I hope you will all follow me on a weekly basis.  You will never go home unrewarded by what I describe.  I hope I can inspire, reward and enhance all by my musings.  Read on.  My first.

ANNETTE AUSTRALIA, OTHER MUSINGS ON MOTHERS DAY.

What i espescially love about this site s the world of artists/craftsmen we have attracted.

I know, i mispelled espescially.  Let it go.

We have Annette Piper from Australia on our site.  From Australia. That is so far away.  And yet, we have her linked up, a keystroke away via the internet.

What outrageous times we live in.

I thought about her a lot today.  I first spotted her coming onto  our site and said, Australia!  We have really have gone global on this site.

She shared her experiences, not unlike a lot of ours, and you had to feel for her.

She is in an unique place.  Art shows are not commenplace--they are outside of the mainstream.

She goes there and has to suddenly deal with a lot of buy/sell.  How unique!  Haven't we all had to deal with this.  But Australia.  Yikes!  The buy/sell virus has gone viral.

The good thing from all of this is this site. We are a global coming-together of almost 5,000 strong as of this writing.  We are a slowly emerging force.  We are a global network of artists/craftsmen/promoters, and patrons who go to this site on a daily basis to gain information.

I felt connected to Annette by her short blog--the internet can do that.  It was like she was on the porch across from me, over shots of tequila, telling me about her day.  We live in wonderous times.  Exhault in them.  Love every moment.  This is the times of our lives.

In following episodes I will get into more one-on-one encounters and experiences as I find them on the road.

Good nite ,Annette.

  • Nels, use the spell checker.
    • Hey Barry, I may mis-pell, but my sentence structure is pretty sound.  First off, most of you never use any quotes.  Most of you never use any real descriptive adjectives, don't even get into metaphors, you guys are nowhere.  This is the internet, I use phonetic abbreves, but guess what? You understand what I am saying.  So get over the mis-pellings folks.  There are a thousand others on this site who do it on a regular basis.  I just pop up more often.  I got no time for Spellcheck, Barry, I am working on my putting stroke.  If the only thing you can think of to blog back about is somebody's mis-pelling, then you are missing a whole lot of content--and isn't that what this site is all about.

Plus, and most importantly, you should try and blog, spelling correctly, with Munks cat, Bill, weaving about on the keyboard, high on God knows what.  peace barry--I love ya.

      • As I hope you understand, I deliberately used the word "abbreves" rather than "abbreviations" because it was shorter and you got the point.  Get with it folks, this is the new age of communication. Maybe next, we can start "diagraming our sentences" and show where exactly the direct object goes, and don't forget the prepositional and adjective phrases on their little platforms.  Hey folks, I got straight "A" in English at tough Catholic schools.
        • Nels - LOL - think I'll pass on any grammar exercies!!!  I agree this is a new age of communication and would much rather see some interpretation of the txting  and IM shortcuts than worry about grammar and spelling!!  My nieces and nephews keep teaching me new ones, I can't keep up with this new communications style, sigh, I keep thinking I'm not that old, but keep getting proven wrong.

          • You are so right, Ruth. I can't stand the "text" spelling. I think it hurts my ears. BTW, Internet always has a capital "I", Nels, and let me tell you I have spent 15 years in Catholic schools so don't try to put anything over on me. A long time ago I taught GED English on an Army base in Massachusetts. For the life of me I can't figure out why I was asking those guys to diagram sentences!

            You on the road?

            • Does internet really begin with an upper case I or is it just something that spell check auto-corrects?

              From Wikipedia:
"Internet is a short form of the technical term internetwork, the result of interconnecting computer networks with special gateways or routers. The Internet is also often referred to as the Net.

The term the Internet, when referring to the entire global system of IP networks, has been treated as a proper noun and written with an initial capital letter. In the media and popular culture a trend has also developed to regard it as a generic term or common noun and thus write it as "the internet", without capitalization. Some guides specify that the word should be capitalized as a noun but not capitalized as an adjective."

              • Cheez-Louise folks get a life.  Who cares if Internet is spelled upper-case or lower-case depending on noun or adjectivial use.  Go pet your dog some more Larry, get a life.

Yes Connie, I took time from packing for going away for five months to write two blogs, post eleven photos and make comments on  about a dozen threads.  And you guys are worried about internet spelling.  Go out and play in the traffic til you figure out what is really important in life.

                • Play in traffic!  If you really want to take a chance of getting whacked by a car, just use a cross walk in Michigan!  I've been almost hit more times in the crosswalks, with the light (cars just gotta run that red, even if it's the third one to do so), in that state than in any other state.

Why am I using the crosswalk?  Because some shows make the artist park far away from the show site, necessitating the need to cross busy streets.

              • So, let's combine these two disparate threads:  In Australia, do they use a small "i" or a capital "I" when spelling i(I)nternet?  Wow!  That should settle that continent-shaking debate!

Keep at it Nels, the misspellings may drive me crazy, but since it's a short drive anyway, I'll just enjoy the content of your stories and tales, spelinks b dammed!

                • Oh no!  I've just had a look at a few Aussie sites (including government ones) and they variously use 'I' and 'i', so I'll sit this one out ;)
