Jury Review Advice

I would really appreciate some advice for getting into bigger art fairs.  This is my new booth setup with our newly purchased trimline and mesh walls, changed up a little after some helpful advice.  The second shot is two possibilities for work submissions.

Any additional advice on the booth shot? Should I get on a ladder and get a higher angle? (I'm really short!) Add more/larger work? Avoid mixing surfaces (framed, canvas wrap, metal)

Are we on the right track for Work Submissions?

Thanks so much!!

Suzanne

  • I used Larry Berman to fix up my booth shot. He was great. I took a shot, sent it to him by email, he gave advice, I made changes, sent him an image... Did that till he thought I had it. I sent him the final shot and then he cleaned it up on his photoshop and set it up for me. He also fixed several of my images to maximize their impact. Great guy. He gave me input which helps me understand how to set up images in the future. He's on this site sometimes.

  • Doesn't matter how short you are if you raise the tripod and stand on something sturdy. I shoot booth pictures from just about five feet. Actually I just measured and the top of my ball head is 56 inches off the floor. Otherwise you're seeing too much roof.

My first impression is that you don't have enough work to do a show. Your pieces are kind of small and your matting/framing is all over the place. You need to standardize for a number of reasons. It will cut down on material cost and no one will be happy enough with your presentation to the point that they're purchase multiple pieces to fill up a space on their wall. To maximize your chances to sell, you need to give people fewer choices. And for the most part (short of selling panoramics) a booth of same size and presentation pieces looks more professional. The top of all your framed pieces should be at the same top height in the booth so the eye flows around and minimizes distractions.

    • Thanks Larry! Helpful input. My two largest pieces are only 20x30 unframed. I'll continue with the smaller shows, while I grow and learn.

Input from anyone on the work submissions?
