  • Here's some more good info that came from Main St. this week:

Thank you for applying to the 2011 MAIN ST. Fort Worth Arts Festival, April 14 – 17, 2011. We understand you have many choices in terms of art festivals and we are VERY pleased you have chosen to apply to our show. Here’s some information for you as we approach our jury on November 12 and 13 at the Downtown Courtyard by Marriott/Blackstone Hotel, 601 Main Street, Fort Worth, TX 76102; (817) 885-8700:

    Applications:
We received 1493 applications this year, including 25 exempted artists, which is a slight decrease from last year’s 1536 applications. Applications received per category are detailed below in our jury schedule.

    Participants and Wait List:
We will invite 213 artists, including 13 Emerging Artists. This includes the 25 award winners from 2010. An additional 50 artists (approximately) will go on our Wait List, divided up by category. Declines by category will be filled from the Wait List from that category.

    Notifications:
Notification will be in the form of Invited, Wait Listed or Not Invited emails, and will be sent by 11:59 PM CT on Monday, November 15. These emails will be sent through the Zapp system. We will not send jury scores. We will change your status on your Zapp profile at that time as well.

    Jury Schedule:
Round 1 of the jury begins on Friday, November 12 with yes-no-maybe scoring. Approximately 50% of our applicants will progress into Round 2. Round 1 is open to the public! Round 2 will take place on Saturday, November 13; however, Round 2 is NOT be open to the public. Round 2 applicants will be judged on a 1 - 7 scale.

You are invited to join us on Friday for Round 1 of the jury. This will be a great opportunity to not only view your own images, but to also see other applicants’ images as well. A special rate for artists joining us for the jury session has been set up by the Downtown Courtyard by Marriott/Blackstone Hotel where the jury is being held. • Hey Jaky,

It is a $30 reality check when you consider the amount of time per applicant in round 1 for jury decisions at Ft. Worth. Of course, there will be 2 rounds for half of the artists.

      Total Applicants being juried: 1482*

      Morning
      Jury Time= 9AM-12PM (3hrs**)
      Number of Applicants= 696*
Time per applicant= approx. 15.5 seconds

      Afternoon
      Jury Time= 1PM-5PM (4hrs**)
      Number of Applicants=786*
Time per applicant= approx. 18.3 seconds

      * the number minuses exempt artists from the total for each medium. BTW, I tally 22 exempt artists and not 25
**of course this doesn't take into account breaks, which certainly there must be
*** there is a caveat that "the times are approximate" so maybe the jurying will go longer. Hard to imagine that a juror can humanly judge that many entries in one day.

      Cheers, LC
      • Yes, it really emphasizes what is meant when they say that your photos need to reach out and grab the judges attention. I don't think that I could even do a yes/no scoring in 15 seconds.

Mostly, I'm just glad that these shows are sharing any information with us at all, and I hope it is the start of a trend. Perhaps they will eventually give us our scores too, but I have to wonder what score, if any, that the first round rejects get.
        • If Fort Worth follows their previous format, they will have five second run through of each medium followed by a approximately a ten second read the artist statement while the jurors score.

Artisphere is worth going to because it appears that they are projecting the images. I applied but it's about a nine hour drive so I'm not going to the jury.

For artists in the northern part of the country, look for Columbus and Uptown to offer open first round jurying also.

    • I am going to Greenville to watch the Artisphere jury. I do wish they could give as much info as FortWorth. When I RSVP to Artisphere they wanted to know if I would be at the morning or afternoon session. I picked afternoon, but they don't know when they will do my medium. I hope I will see the painting juried section. Liz is great and keeps in contact with the artist. I have friends in Greenville and they heard some more info on the news about all the applicants for this year. Tons of application, more then other years and not many booth spots.
