This year I participated in the Discover Presque Isle show. We had wind, rain, and flooding. Needless to say, financially it was a disaster. I was not selling much prior to the weather problems. I know th economy is bad. I was wondering if anyone has done that show in previous years so I know whether to cross it off my list for next year or give it another year. The booth rent is about $200 for the weekend. I sell handcrafted jewelry (price points $50 -$100 necklaces $10-30 earrings). Any imput would be helpful. This is my first year of doing shows. Thanks

  • Hi Diane - Have not done that show (yet) but am very familiar with that area and have done nearby shows. Just my opinion, but methinks the weather had a major impact on your sales. We did a small show in nearby Alpena in July and will do another in October. Our sales have been about half of 2008, but we did well in that area (we do photography). Seems to me your price points are very good especially for that area. Many vacation homes there and the people are fantastic and very much enjoy art show weekends. It's a tough year across the midwest in general and extra difficult if it is your first year doing shows. But I would not cross it off your list for next year unless you find a better show that weekend. Something I always watch for at shows is - percentage of patrons with bags. Wishing you a better next show!
