ArtFair Outsider or Auditing the 14th Annual Downtown Denver Arts Festival 2012

Has it really been that long since this show premiered? Man, I've been around a while! This show originally came into being as a Colorado artists show only which, I presume, was a reaction to the Cherry Creek Arts Festival not being particularly inviting to Colorado artists at the time. I participated in the very first show when it premiered on the lawn in front of the Denver Center for the Performing Arts which fronted on Speer Blvd and had a lot of visibility but not a lot of visitors. Later…See More

"Did the show last year and it was fair, not a lot of traffic but then they were building a pedestrian underpass on the only road that leads to Park City so traffic was really backed up!"

S Brian Berkun commented on Cindi Hendrickson's blog post What's the strangest thing that you have seen at an art show?
"Oh, that reminds me...this spring in Tempe! I don't remember what it was called (probably some college thing) but there were several couples arrested Saturday morning after being found inside of several of the artists booths completing some…"

S Brian Berkun commented on Cindi Hendrickson's blog post What's the strangest thing that you have seen at an art show?
"Years ago doing the Des Moines art show, when it was in the dimly lit buildings at the fairgrounds. It wasn't too busy (in fact it was pretty much a ghost town!) I happened to step out into the aisle when I saw this poorly dressed man in sweat…"

S Brian Berkun replied to Dale Yakaites (Yak)'s discussion Pro Panels vs Armstrong vs mesh sidewalls in the group Photographers Darkroom
"For what it is worth...The only reasons I bought the mesh panels were 1) cost 2) space. I use to drive around with my 4Runner and was limited in what I could carry. If I had my druthers, I'd go with Pro-Panels now as they look more professional…"

What are the best things about art fairs
Being with other creative individuals.
Best show ever and why
Park City Utah 2006, great enthusiasm for my work which was expressed in purchases and compliments!
Worst show ever and why
Breckenridge, CO (year?) Memorial Day weekend show, it rained, it snowed, it was miserably cold, there may have been 12 people who came to look at the show in a big parking lot. Had to load out with everything wet. Yet, there was one other photographer who praised my work and suggested I raise my prices! ;-)

Sonoran Arts League 12th Annual Festival of Fine Art (http://www.sonoranartsleague.org/festival.php). I had an inkling of a feeling...but I went ahead anyway. The guides were right again but I, a mere mortal who doesn't listen well yet, trudged forward. A friend of the wife who is a long time member of the arts league had told us about this show and how they were trying to get a new variety of art in it and I…

I wish I could say that I've been so busy filling orders from the Jan and Feb shows that I had no time to report on this show till now but although I've been busy it hasn't been as a result of the aforementioned purpose! ;-P I had this show on my radar for a number of years but wasn't able to get to it till this year, just missed the deadline last year.  I should be learning to listen to my spirit guides more carefully for a reason! Years ago (20) I would spend two weeks with a friend as an…
