"Thanks, Annette.  I probably won't try to do this event again.  It was $200 in gas (we have a diesel van), plus $300 lodging, plus 8 hours one way...all that on top of the booth fee.  It is just cost prohibitive for me to do it…"

St Johns River Art Festival in Sanford Florida May 5-6

This was the first year for this event, and I know lots of artists won't do first year shows...I, however, choose to support new shows and events when I can (they have to start somewhere, don't they?)  As a stained glass artist, my customer base is different from the canvas artists, sculptors, etc, just as their customers are different from mine. so my experience will be different from other artists.  There were about 70 artists, I think, representing a good variety of media.  All of the booths…See More

"May 5 and 6 is not that far away.....I would only caution that you keep an eye on the Treyvon Martin story unfolding in Sanford.  Currently, that is not a city I would want to be anywhere near."

sales, contacts for commission work, and contacts for possible students
Best show ever and why
Mossy Creek Barnyard Festival in Perry, GA. Oct 2010. Outside event in the woods. Wide walking area for attendees. Whole site gets new, fresh straw on ground to help keep dust down, and any possible mud. Promoters are always accessible and friendly. Booth spaces have space between them: Artists are not packed in on top of each other. Strictly juried, and junk in accepted. Must have invitation to apply. Will go back and do this in spring.
Worst show ever and why
Have had some really bad ones. Maybe Knoxville Christmas Fair in Nov 2010. Started as arts/crafts, now mostly commercial stuff. Did not make booth rent in 3 days. Only 2 small sales last day. Won't do that again.

Hi, fellow artisans!  I lurk here more than post, ofcourse, but thought I might just post about an inaugural show in Florida the first weekend in .  I noticed earlier that there was a post from someone wanting input on it.  It is the St Johns River Artfest in Sanford, Florida.  I have been a stained glass artist for over 20 years, but doing shows only about 5.  I have confined myself to Georgia shows, because it is so expensive to travel, but decided to offer my glass to other audiences this…

This is the first time I have every written on a "Blog"....so am not sure I am even in the right place to do this....I am a stained glass artist living, and mostly showing, in Georgia...There is a show called Mossy Creek Barnyard Festival near Perry, GA that is held twice a year: spring and fall....It draws both artists and attendees from all over the southeast, and one artist I know even comes from Illinios to participate....This has been a long…
