Wireless Credit Card Processing

Just wondering if any of you use your smart phones to do wireless credit card processing? I have talked to a couple of folks who do with good results. My thinking is that if I am paying for wireless fees already why pay twice if I don't have to. I would appreciate any info on companies or experiences. I currently use 1st National Processing and am happy with them but am trying to reduce costs and get coverage in some areas where the Verison Data Network does not work. That is what 1st Nat. Proc. wireless is on. Thanks.

  • I use my IPhone to process transactions through GoPay and have been very pleased.  I did my my swiper that attached directly to the IPhone through IPhone...as GoPay did not offer one that was compatible with the phone.  When I signed up 2 years ago, I was processing manually and I never received the "Free" swiper.  I paid around $175.00 for the IPhone card scanner.  I love it.  As you said, why pay additional monies for a card scanner, access, etc. when you have a smart phone.  The only thing that freaks the customers out is they have to sign the screen with their finger...makes for some interesting signatures...but have not had any of the charges kicked back.  GoPay is perfect for the part-time exihitor...I too work full time and do the shows that I can get into.  Will be doing 6 this year and hope to double that in 2012.  Good Luck!
  • Has anyone tried to use PayPal from their Smart Phones instead of the card readers?  Especially if one only does 3-4 shows a year????  I haven't signed on to a credit card thing because I don't want to pay a monthly charge for something that I don't use except for a few times a year.  Currently, my jewelry business I term as a "Jobby".  I have a full-time 40hr week day job to pay the bills - hoping to be able to retire in about 4 years and be able to devote full-time to my Jobby then.

Dann, I would be happy to learn more on the no monthly fee option.  - I checked the webiste and I have an account with inuit - through my Quickbooks.

    • Oops, I forgot to tell you that since you already use Quickbooks, you can arrange it so your charges will appear on your Quickbooks site automatically so you won't have to do it manually.
      • I forgot to include my email address, it's dann@fizzcorp.com. It's a little cumbersome doing a lot of writing on here. I need the model number of your Blackberry Storm. I found out it is supported by Go Payment but only with the Blue Bamboo card reader, not the new universal device. If you don't necessarily need it right away you might want to wait till you get the new Droid.
    • Hi and thanks for getting in touch. Information about the new free card reader is supposed to be up on the gopayment web site on Jan. 9th. It works by sliding into the audio jack on the phone. For this card reader the rates are 2.7% -3.7%. It sounds like the ideal thing for you since you can only do a few shows a year right now. The no monthly fee plan is also excellent if your avg. sales per month totals $1500.00 or less. For larger sales the $12.95 monthly fee works best since it carries a 1% less rate. I'll be happy to put you one in the mail if you would like to try it out. You won't believe how easy it is to use.
      • I would definitely be interested, unfortunately my sales are way below monthly $1500.  Working a full-40 hour week doesn't allow for me to work on selling jewelry much.  I currently use a blackberry, but am thinking about moving to a droid - I am assuming that it will work the same on both types of phones.

Is there a contract or a pay as you go?  If no contract, please let me know how to send you my information privately.

        Thanks.

        • There is no contract with GoPayment. No set up fee, no termination fee. That's what I love about Intuit. They're all about small business solutions and not interested in gouging people. Very reputable company. With under $1500 per month in credit card sales, you should definitely go with the No Monthly Fee plan. You will pay 2.7% - 3.7% rate with a .15 cent transaction fee. I can mail you the card reader for free and you can get signed up by going to www.gopaymentforartists.com. whenever you're ready. Let me know exactly what model phone you have so I can make sure it is compatible with the program. All of the newer ( within a year or so ) blackbery's and droids are compatible. Thanks, Dann
          • Dan  I checked on the website and it doesn't say anything yet about the free card reader nor the 0 monthly fee.  Only shows the $12.95 monthly fee.  I would be ready anytime once the no monthly fee is available for sure. Is there another place to sign up at?

I am currently using the Verison Blackberry Storm, but within the next few months, will be upgrading my plan and hoping to go to a droid (not sure which one).

            • I checked the site a little deeper and found where to sign up.  I have signed up now and in pending status.

              Thanks much

  • Hi Nancy,

Yes, we use the IPhone swipe device and have found it to work very well.
