I am new this year to Art Fairs and do not have a booth photo yet so have been looking for shows that do not require a booth photo. With the help of member Alison Loewen who has been really helpful we have compiled a list along with some other helpful  info. Leave a reply if you have any to add.

  • Hah! That is a very interesting list, including some decent events. I am quite surprised.

However, I agree with Larry. Don't limit yourselves to shows that don't require a booth shot, it severely limits your choices, especially as I believe you live in an area where the season is short (upper Midwest?) and you want to be able to take advantage of all opportunities.

It is possible to set up your display indoors without the tent. This is so the shows get some idea of what your presentation is going to be when you get there. Except for the really very top shows where there is a lot of competition for the spaces this booth shot is just so the organizers can get some idea of the scale of your work and what they will be seeing in their show when you get there.

    • Thanks Connie, setting up indoors might be a possibility but would require quite a bit of photoshop work. Might give this a try.

  • You're much better off trying to put together a booth to photograph than to apply to shows that probably might not be worth doing.

A lot of the major shows have what's called an emerging artist category where you don't need a booth picture to apply. And you're only competing with other emerging artists for space. If you get in, the show supplies the display.

    • Larry,

Are saying that the only shows that are good require a booth photo?

As far as putting together a booth I have to wait until I have one. Have a  used one committed but waiting for her to find a replacement.

Shows that have emerging artist are hard to find, I have looked on web sites and zapp but so far have not  found any.

      • What I'm saying is that most decent show requires a booth image, though there are a few exceptions.

But here's the thing. If you communicate with shows you're really interested in applying to and explain that you're a new artist and don't have a booth picture yet, I'm sure most will suggest you either photograph a grouping of your work or just add an additional art image (called a booth in your profile) to complete the application.

A few major shows with an emerging artist category include Columbus, Fort Worth, Cherry Creek and Three Rivers in Pittsburgh. There are more that I'm not aware of. Some have residency requirements and some don't.

Milwaukee Lakefront doesn't require a booth image either.
