I was hesitant about twitter at first but once I got use to it I have found it pretty interesting. There is plenty of stuff that I don’t find useful on
twitter. What I did find useful was the free online tool HootSuite which made
it easy for me to find what I am interested in on twitter. I am able to create
columns inside of HootSuite that automatically pull in certain tweets. I have a
column for tweets about my business, one for tweets that refer to me (I would
have thought that would be automatic but it is not), and I have others to track
keywords that I am interested in. I like photography and many of my customers
are photographers and there are lots of interesting tweets on photography. I
have also come across some interesting photographers and their websites via
twitter. Like Facebook you can also burn a lot of time up.

Unlike Facebook I have found that twitter seems difficult to use directly without some tool to help filter messages, followers and searches. HootSuite is just one, there are others like TweekDeck, Twitterfeed, and Tweetie (for IPhones).

Cheers,

Mark
