I came across this show & have heard good reviews about a show that is held in Key West. I don't recall if this is "the one" that everyone speaks so highly of or not.  If anyone could kindly offer up some past experience about this particular show, it would be very appreciated. Looking for a Fl. show that is on the w'end of Feb 23-2014. (trying to avoid a buy sell market place)

  • I've done the KW Old Island Days show for years and agree with what Bill says. It is never a huge seller for me, but I do make a profit and hey, it's Key West in February! You don't get much better than that! Some years I have stayed in Big Pine Key or Marathon to escape the high rents in KW.

    • Without a doubt I was considering how "grand" the show could be in more ways then one. Paradise in Feb, right? Great advice on the lodging too. Thank You kindly Joan~

  • Hi Christine,

We did both Key West shows last year and will apply again if the schedule works out for us.  Lois Songer and her staff/volunteers do great job.  They walk the shows continuously to make sure there is no buy/sell.

Larry is partly right - the cruise ships can have a big impact on your sales.  Last year, I think there was only one ship each weekend.  There can be as many as 2-3/day.  Having said that, the locals come out too - usually on Sunday.  There are lots of homes between Marathon and Key West that need art!  So - while it's important to have work that will go in a suitcase or be cheap to ship but bigger pieces will sell too.

The KW shows can be expensive to do.  We had enough hotel "points" to get free rooms for the weekends so that helped a lot.  Also, the main road into Key West is under construction and is really torn up as you come onto the island.  The route to the venue can be slow going.  If you stay off the island, allow tons of time to get to the show.  Maybe we'll see you there.

    • I appreciate your nice & informative response Bill. It sounds like there's some things to consider with the high expenses, travel etc.  Thank You kindly~

  • There's a craft show end of January and an art show at the end of February. From what I remember the shows depend on tourists that come in off the cruise ships. So either have something they can carry on board or be prepared to ship.
