July will be my first at Plymouth - any past experiences anyone want to share? Received packet and it seems they have color coded the streets for easier load access. Appears to be well thought out. Comments? Past year's results? I have booth 124 adjacent to Kellogg Park - at least they don't have a post office in the area ;-)

  • I've done this show for years --except this year .....I just felt I needed a break from it . In the past , it has fallen in my best shows--sales wise ......though last year , my sales really dropped off ...thus the reason for this years break . I think I've just been there too much ....and the weather didn't help last year --had to close up the booth a couple hours at one point .
But , I think it mostly was a case of over saturation -on my part . ...you gotta know when to take a break . I'd definately go back though --next year or the year after ......
anyways.....the last 3 or so years , I took the "corner " space ....and it was not any actual corner , but the space next to me was an empty driveway . A friend , always takes a corner ...and it is always an empty booth -next to their space . At this show , that is what is considered a corner . I've seen this at other shows ....but usually it is called , a "corner in the middle of a row"......or something to that effect .
I think it should be stated on the app. -what your actually getting ....though I don't think it is .
In comparison, at the Allentown/Buffalo Show, I do......I have the same situation.....my booth ends in a drive way...and it is like a corner -in the middle of a row, but I am not charged any extra .
oh yeah, at the other shows , that I've seen this , it is stated on the app. , what type of corner this is , and is charged a lesser fee, than an actual "intersection corner ".
I have found it to be worth the extra money --to have the extra space ....though I see that corner price went up this year - slightly. I believe last year it was $180.
One thing I have to say about Dianne, the promoter , is she really personally supports the artists, in that , she actually spends her own money in MANY artists booths -every year . Lots of money.
in the past , she has been one of my best customers . Also, I have watched her actually kick BS out of her show.......had a front row seat . We just pulled up our chairs and watched . heck, how often do you actually get to see this ???
I've never had a bad location -at this show....though I have heard complaints otherwise .....
though I've been on the main st . and a side street before---and still have made tons of money .
it didn't seem to matter . So I can only state my own experience .
In the past , this show has drawn in huge crowds ....I hope it all goes great this year .
  • In past shows I've been at, I've considered having no one next to me a semi corner as you can utilize that extra side as corner exposure and open up that side. I have no experience at this show, but I'd certainly welcome that extra open area. Thanks for your input..... we'll have to touch base once we get there!

Watchout! There is a post office in the area! It's the area right behind booth 617!

... Hey, that's right around where I am. I'm in booth 642 across the street.

This is only my third show, although I've been going to Plymouth Art in the Park my whole life (grew up and still live in Plymouth.) The only location I have noticed in previous years that I would be worried about are booths 907-922. It seems to me like people go around Kellogg Park, but don't go that far down Union Street (which is the same as Deer Street.)

I'm definitely still learning. Purchasing a corner booth at the first show I went to really meant you were on a corner, an intersection. I paid an extra $200 for Plymouth Art in the Park and was assigned booth 642. No where near an intersection. I first thought it was a mistake, and when I brought it to their attention, they said it was a corner since there was no booth between mine and 643. Is this typical? I can't see the average person thinking this is a corner spot. Is this a waste of money since it isn't actually on or near an intersection? Should I be saying it's not what I thought and asking for the $200 back? Or should I just put this in the learning expense category?...

    Hope to see you there!
