The weather was bad but the show was worse.
I absolutely DO NOT RECOMMEND this show to anyone.  there was a tent selling bob marley t shirts, multiple people selling soap.  There were bands playing and lots of food vendors and very few people walking around with any art.  They had a few prizes (i dont know if there was money associated with them) and 2nd and 3rd went to people who i thought had legitimately nice stuff, but like many of us know, the first prize went to some weird poorly executed mixed media.
I sold like $600 on saturday, packed up sunday morning like many others because the weather was going to be rainy all day and most people i talked to didnt cover booth fee.
The people running the show seem nice.

  • It's a terrible show. The people on the main street have a shot at possibly making some sales, but if you are on a side street, it's death. They do not care about medium ratios. The last time I did the show, there were 8 jewelers on a side street with 12 booths. People were so angry. A fellow artist and I have a saying "Friends don't let friends do Melbourne"
They all about their own money and the hell with the Artists.

  • I also did the show. The 2 artists behind me packed up Sat. evening and I called it quits on Sun morning.

Attendence is the problem at this show, they may be trying to be to many things and not executing well on any one of them. Music concert venue? Flea market? Art & Craft Show.

  • That was my first time, we all were because no one ever does that show twice. It seems like it should be a good show. They shut down the main drag of Melbourne and some people were out on Saturday but just no one seemed to buy anything big. It was a really stuff crowd I think.
  • Megan, was that your first time doing the show?  What do you think the problem was?
