  • This show is put on by the Scottsdale Contemporary Art Museum, so yes it is high quality and by far the best show in AZ. It's also different from most AZ shows because it does lean to more contemporary. The one thing about this show is that it is very hard to get in! I have tried twice so far, but talked to people that tried 5-7 times before they finally got accepted. If your looking for an AZ show in March, you might also want to try Tempe festival of the Arts. It's a large show and I usually do well there. SW landscape photographers seem to not do well in this show lately, it is starting to go more contemporary. For your type of photo's I would try Carefree and Cavecreek shows. They bring an older crowd that look for SW and Indian art.

  • I'm not sure if it is still true, but for many years, the people going to THIS show are real art collectors. That said, it depends on what they like to collect!

  • I've done this show a number of times over the years, but haven't been there in a while. It's one of those shows that seems to be all over the place in terms of sales. I've always done "pretty good"--- but never great. I know many people who do spectacularly well there year after year--- and many who completely tank. I think part of that disparity is the physical layout of the show, There are prime booth spaces that get great traffic and some "legs" that just dead-end into nothingness.

The show site is beautiful and it's on the grounds of the Scottsdale Center for the Arts, so many of the Center's art savvy members attend. Although there are MANY (far too many) art shows that happen all year round in Scottsdale, this is by far the best one in terms of sales, quality of art, show organization and advertising. Locals are very aware of the high quality of this particular show and many have told me it's the only one they attend.

The set up can be very easy or a bit taxing depending on booth location. Some areas you can drive right up to to unload-- many require long treks with the dolly.

Like any show, I guess it's a crap-shoot as to how any particular artist will do--- but hands down it's the best one Arizona has to offer.

    • Thank you.

Does the show honor requests for particular booth locations?

      Bob

      • Yup. They might not give you the exact spot you want-- but they'll put you in the general area requested.

        • Based on your review mentioning dead-ends, what is the general area I should request?

          Bob

          • In my opinion the area around the fountains gets the best traffic. (it's also though an area that you need to dolly in to). The parking lot booths seem to get plenty of traffic and you can drive to your booth for set up-- but they're hot and not at all visually appealing. I don't have a map of the booth numbers and it's been a while since I did the show--- but the worst booths are these little tangents with maybe just 8 or 10 booths by themselves. Nobody goes there. There are also some very hilly sites.... so if you need a fairly level spot, mention it.
