Hi Gang!

Newbie photographer here... I'm looking for opinions on how much inventory I need to carry in my booth to generate a good income cash flow.  The old adage 'you can't sell from an empty cart' comes to mind.

Right now we have 2 bins of matted prints with three sizes, and a 3rd bin with our 8x10's.  I suspect this is not enough to generate a good sales volume, but does anyone have a feel for a ratio of bin/inventory capacity to sales volume?

Thanks!

Patrick

  • Look at what others are doing who you think are doing a good business, Jay. Be bold, even count how many choices there are. Frankly, too much, every image in every size makes it hard for people to make a decision. You can exhaust people just looking at them. You don't have to show everything in multiple sizes, but something I used to do when someone was going to buy something, I'd ask them, "would you like to see that in a larger size?"

    • Connie,

I think this advice is something I can apply to how many different coaster and trivet designs I bring to a show.

I have also been thinking about how many I have available at my Etsy shop.  Currently I have 120 coaster designs.  Now I have some are "sort of" duplicates and 17 of them are on clearance.  To get around the limited variations Etsy offers, I have the same monogram listed 4 times, one for each color of travertine tile.  Since I am not meeting the customers in person, it's hard to say, would you like to see that on a different colored tile?  Anyway, I am considering paring down my offerings of coasters and this gives me food for thought.
