Indoor Art Shows

We were wondering if there are any indoor art shows in the midwest area.   This would include Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, Indiana.

With the weather being like it has been the past two years in this area, outdoor shows have suffered.  Suffered in Artists attending and in customers not going out to shop in 100 degree heat or in rain.

Are there any indoor shows around?   If not, do you think there is a place for them?   We have searched meany sites and publications and can not seem to find any.  The time frome for these shows would be say May to September.

Your thoughts please.

Thanks

  • Thanks Kathy, we will check it out

  • Bill, that is the time of year in that region where everyone wants to get outdoors, so there are not many choices. I am going to second the Queeny Park shows in St. Louis, and Artfest Midwest in Des Moines. Does the Midwest Salute to the Masters in Fairview Heights, IL, still happen - late August? The American Craft Expo in Evanston, late August is awesome. Recently the Renegade Craft Fair in Chicago, is that indoors? worth checking out.

    • Midwest salute, that's the one I was trying to think of. It is in Late August outside in a big tent.
    • Thanks Connie,

Yes everyone wants to get outdoors but in the last 2 years the outdoor shows in this are have been brutal.  Either 100 degrees or raining.  When it is over say 90, the customers do not come out.  We have seen shows in the last two years where the customer count is less than 50% of what it should be due to the weather.

Plus as we get older each year, set up and tear down in that heat is just unbearable.  So we thought we might look into some indoor shows.

  • Hi Bill,

Yes indoor shows are wonderful when it is hot, wet, or  terribly windy out.  I only know of one very good inside show

(of our 14 summer shows, only 2 were inside)  Midwest Artfest put one by Sue Stookey, is easily our best show.

It is in June, at the Varied industries building, in the Des Moines Fairgounds,  Des Moines IA.  Not everyone is thrilled with this show, don't expect to bring huge price items only, won't work.  But one thing I can tell you about the people of Des Moines, If they like you and your talent, they can be  very loyal.  Which amounts to nice sales.  We also do an inside show in Bloomington, IL called Spring Bloom, this show is in April, a comment about that show is that those women are tired of being cooped up and this is the first are show of the season, which can be a wonderful thing.

    good luck to you

    • Jacque,

Thank you for that information.  We will definately look into those shows.

      • Greater St. Louis Art Assn puts on the Queeny Show Spring and Fall. It depends on what you are selling if it is a good show for sales. I have never done the show, but I have worked at it. It was storming this fall, but people kept coming in the door. I also went to one in collinsville, iL. They pitch 3 huge tents and you get a spot under the tent. It can be very hot, but if it rains the crowds don't slow done. I know some people who like it. I was only there shopping.
