We moved to Maine this fall. I'm in the process of setting up my jewelry studio in our old house. Our homeowners insurance carrier has now informed us I must move my soldering torch (and presumably my bead torch) to an outbuilding. This will be a major inconvenience, and is on top of a number of other conditions we think are a bit overbearing (such as requiring a central station burglar and fire alarm).

Does anyone in the group have a homeowners insurance carrier that has been more reasonable about having the studio, including the soldering or beadmaking torches, in the house?

Thanks.

  • We are in New Hampshire, but we have our business, homeowners, auto, and umbrella policies with Maine Mutual Group (through an independent agent here). But our studio and kiln are in the garage, not the house, and as a consequence the garage is covered by our business insurance, and not the homeowners policy.
