  • That might work if the laptop will save the transactions for you until you get to internet connectivity. Otherwise, you will need to buy an air card for you laptop and pay a monthly charge to use it with the phone carrier from whom you bought it. I think that I already replied to you. I have a Nurit 2085 for sale. Cheaper way to go! Reach me at larry@larrysimages.com or 419-565-5207. I live in Mansfield, OH
  • You will have to get an air card for your PC and subscribe to the service (maybe $60 per month). I have a Nurit 2085 Card Payment Terminal, and One (1) Vector Power Inverter 1000 watt (2000 watt peak) for sale. You swipe the cards in the machine and it saves them. Upon arriving at home, you connect it to a phone line. It calls in to authorize the payments. It then makes a second call to submit them for payment. I would throw in the battery I used with this (three years old). This would be a less expensive alternative. Reach me at larry@larrysimages.com or 419-565-5207. I live in Mansfield, OH
  • If you have a smart phone you can use this free app. that lets you swipe credit and Debit cards without having a merchant account. They mail you the card reader and its free. I just bought an Android so I could use this feature.

  • I use merchantanywhere.com. It uses your cell phone add their machine. The blue tooth model is 299 right now on sale. They also have one that plugs into your phone. No contract, the fees are alright.no batching, it does it for you.
  • I have been using merchantanywhere.com for the past 4 years...excellent service and rates. They have card readers available also for a decent price.
  • I just looked at www.usbswiper.com: Magnetic Strip reader attaches by USB to a laptop with wireless access. Paypal virtual terminal software links to a Paypal Pro account online. One flat transaction fee rate, that they claim is low, the card is verified immediately and funds transfer on the spot.
The mobile phone thing looks fine, but there are still a ton of people who don't own a phone that can do it, like me, or who don't trust/want to learn how the apps work.
USBswiper does offer rentals for occasional short-term events.
    What do you think?
  • I use paypal virtual terminal. I know its not the most popular, but it works for me. Its $30/month + some % per transaction, no contract, no min. chargers. I cancel it in months I don't have any shows, and I can reactivate it in seconds if I have a customer who calls me for a special order and wants to pay by credit card.

I used to use a carbon imprinter for at show charges, then enter the payment info after the show on the computer. Now there is a FREE third party APP for Android, blackberry and Apple phones that allows me to charge the card directly through my phone using paypal. This way I do not need to keep a carbon copy of the credit card number, and the card is charged right away. I still fill out a charge slip and have the customer sign it, but there is no need to imprint the card number on the slip.
