Hey anybody do the Crozet Virginia Spring Show in 2013?  I've seen some posts from 2011/2012 and was curious about last year.  I do contemporary landscapes, and I have fairly low expectations from this show after reading old posts, but would love more recent feedback.

thanks!

  • I did the spring show in 2013 and I swore I would never be back.  However most of the issues were with an inexperienced, unorganized new director.  When I heard they were hiring a new director and I had a blank space for the weekend I decided to give it another try.  So far so good.  Last year I requested the paypal invoice that they offered since I hadn't done a show for 4 months and wanted to charge it.  Repeated phone calls and emails never produced the pay pal invoice.  Finally I scrounged up money for the booth fee and sent a check.  This resulted in my having a really sucky booth location although a lot of other people were complaining that they didn't get their requested booth location so it may not have been when I paid.  Also, unlike previous years, the country craft was mixed in with the fine art and I was right across from a triple booth selling calligraphy names for $10.

This year I got my paypal invoice right away.  There also seems to be a good bit more advertising going on at least on Facebook.  Because I was able to pay right away I was able to secure a booth and a half with a corner.  I was impressed that the new director gave out his cell phone number and actually answered it.

I usually do well at this show because a) I have photos from the area and b) I am local so I get after show orders.  Last year I did terribly because of the poor booth location.  The spill over from the $10 calligraphy people was literally blocking my booth for most of the show. Hopefully this year will be back to normal.

I still would not recommend that anyone travel for this show.  There is some questionable art and there are a lot of extra activities like a bouncy house and apparently this year, bands.  I'm hoping that the paint your own picture and dye your own scarf people will not be back but that may be asking too much.  All the artists are under a big tent or in pole barns so I'm thinking it is a good thing that rain is called for this weekend....

    • well frankly after reading everything Im just hoping to break even (my studio partner and I are both doing it and sharing expenses-but we are driving 7 hours!)  -unfortunately in upstate ny there is NOTHING this time of year so you have to hit the road.  We shall see-thanks for getting back to me
