I just had an email exchange with a company telling me they would sell me 20,000 names of attendees to an upcoming art show. When I asked them where the data came from, they said "ticket sales". Funny, because the show is free!! I never got a reply.....

If you are looking to purchase data from a reputable data company, here are some questions you can ask to ensure that the data is legitimate:

  1. How was the data collected?
  2. Can you provide details on the data source and methodology used to obtain the data?
  3. What kind of data is included in the list?
  4. How recent is the data?
  5. How accurate is the data?
  6. Can you provide references or case studies of other clients who have successfully used the data?
  7. What is your process for updating the data?
  8. Can I sample the data before purchasing?
  9. Is the data compliant with relevant laws and regulations, such as GDPR?
  10. What is your process for ensuring the data is not fraudulent or fake?

I hope you find this useful and it saves you a couple of hundred bucks!

Cheers!
