I applied to 57th street, their notification date was march 2nd, I emailed them on the 5th because I had not heard anything from them, got nothing back. My status of the application on zapp has not changed. I need to know because I have to pay my booth fee for another show for that same weekend if I did not get into 57th street.

Anyone else heard from them? Is something like this unusual ? I understand that things happen but I would expect at least a notification that they had to bump the date back.

  • I had the same question a couple weeks ago. I was recently rejected.
  • Well, I finally heard from them on Monday, and I am in! Even though I can't get my money back from the other show I am going to do 57th street because I think it is a much better opportunity.

    • So notification was at least 3 weeks late? Was an explanation ever offered? I lost a $500 booth fee last year because a show pushed back the notification date so far. But at least they told me they were running late.

    • Congrats! If all goes well they will reinvite you next year and then you'll get to wait and wait and wait until someone gets time free from work to get around to contacting you. It's all part of the business. Every show has its own personality and now you know about this one!

      • I appreciate Connie's past relationship to the show, but I am not quite so willing to chalk it up to the show's "personality."  There's a real business impact to artists when shows send out notifications so late.  At the VERY least, if you do the show again, contact them on the day after the stated notification date and ask for your status.  (I wouldn't recommend email.  If they had time to go on their computer and read emails, they'd also have time to send out the notifications timely.)

        • I didn't mean to sound cavalier on this topic, Gregg. I totally agree with Geoff. Thank goodness few shows operate like this or all schedules would be in an uproar. I guess I meant to make note of this for the years to come and accordingly hedge your bets.

        • Totally agree with Geoff on this issue.  I know in the past there have been comments on not applying to multiple shows for the same weekend, it's issues like late notification that force us to spend more on jury fees or submitting non-refundable booth fees to our second or third choice shows because of deadlines that seem to keep slipping for shows.

  • There you go, Gregg. This is another event that is run entirely by volunteers to make some money to support the local schools. We did the show for a number of years. Very nice people, and beaucoup logistics involved in getting it into the neighborhood, onto the playground, etc. My bet is that are definitely not blowing anyone off but working around schedules, doing many different things and will in the end have a well-attended event. You will hear from them. When that will be is the only question.

  • Well, I am just going to pass. I know there was a slim chance of getting in but i would have at least liked to know either way. I hope it is because they are experiencing some sort of technical/logistical difficulties, and not just blowing people off. I need to confirm for another show that weekend, and I don't want to put that off any longer.
