I often use my Corporate Lodging card, or HotWire, etc., or sleep in my van - but my husband hates it when I do that. Just today, a friend told me about AirBnB, and I used it to get a relatively cheap room for the show in Amagansett, NY, where hotel prices are astronomical, and are all booked anyways.

I am checking it out for shows in Frederick, MD, and Virginia Beach, too.

It's pretty interesting. Sometimes, it's a room in someone's house. Sometimes it's a house or apartment that is vacant (maybe the owner's second home?). I've checked out places all over the world, from a $73 a night studio apartment in Paris, to a $125 a night treehouse in San Francisco.

Just thought I'd share. It has solved a couple big housing problems for me!

  • Carrie, the tree house sounds fun.  I'd give that a try.  I do have a question for you.  Is there a cleaning fee added to the room they post?  Do they charge taxes, too?  I have been tempted to try it but my sister scares me by saying that the place may not be as nice as the photos.  Have you always had pretty good experiences?

  • I just went to this site and you're right it is interesting, I think I'll use it for Bele Chere in Asheville this summer. It would be so nice to come back from the show to a home instead of a hotel room.
