Buy Sell was blatant at this show when you have a booth clearly marked (i am not going to say the name but here is a hint...) "color"_ "reptile"imports.biz if that is not clearly buy sell then I must be crazy. I did see the…

An artist who I know who has been exhibiting for 35 years once told me some good advice. Every show is some ones best show and some ones worst show. The only way to know if a show is right for you is to try it once or twice. I have been exhibiting…

I attended this show as well and I must admit I have to put this show in my top 5 worst shows. The promoters shut down the show around 1:30 because of rain which ended about 10:00 min after I gave in and closed my booth. I walked to my truck got in…

Michael Lee replied to Nels Johnson's discussion 'Rising booth fees. Where is this going?'
You have to wonder if the location the promoter is using has raised the fee of the location. In most cases I doubt it. The shopping centers promoters use are loosing the anchor stores and many retail spaces are vacant. I am sure the owner of the lot…

I did that show as well my second year. I will go back next year the volunteers are really helpful and the crowd is good. Sunday was a much better day for me sales wise. My goal is always to exceed my sales from the previous year at a show and I was…

Any show that has the look -a-like flute players ,...well ,I leave it at that.Stay away from the mall shows.Promoters rely on the mall being the draw NOT US.so they dont advertise.Just did one to see if they have changed with a new…

Jennifer, You are correct that was me I do paint horses, but I also have beach scenes with people and various other subjects. I am glad you had a great show, hopefully that is a sign that the economy is slowly coming back. Next time we are at the…

Glad to hear positive information, it was hard to take last year. Malls are hard to compete with and we had Macy's giving away $10 certificates. Free merchandise, plus we had the added problem of there having been many arts and crafts shows the…

I was there also, that's really funny. We were at the Bluffton Art and Seafood Festival together too..... I did really badly at that one and you sold your most expensive painting ever. I actually did pretty well at the Suncoast Arts Fest. Not…

Walking Zombies At Suncoast Arts Fest

This show boast that 70,000 people come to it. Yes that may be true but of that 70,000 only a very few come to buy art. The rest are walking through on their way to the mall stores. I really wanted this to be a great show but The patrons had no intention of buying from the artist. The set up was easy, the volunteers were great, the booth had about 5ft of space on each side so you can use the sides for display space.Plenty of parking what more could an artist ask for? Well buyers would help for…See More

I did terrible at the location last year in 2009. It does not matter what time of year they have it, you cannot compete with a mall. Worst "big" show I ever did, just made boothe fee and a little more. You are right, the folks had…

What are the best things about art fairs
Meeting customers face to face and making new artist friends.
Best show ever and why
So far my best show has been Fransisco's Farm in Midway, KY. I sell equestrian oil paintings and I was in my target area. That show was in 2008. The same show in 2009 was not nearly as good for sales.
Worst show ever and why
Athfest in Athens, GA. It was incredibly hotter than hell. tons of people but they were all college students with no money. I have only $0 a few times and most time it was because of bad weather. Athfest is by far the hottest most miserable I have ever been during a show

So much for doing my homework on this show. Over the past few years I think I know how to pick the right show for my work. I am an oil painter and my paintings are bright colorful and certainly affordable to the right crowd.

I deserve a bad grade for choosing this show. If you create art that can be mounted on a stick, pole, rod, rebar, pipe etc then this would be the show for you. If you are a fine artist working in 2d then I would stay away from this show.

I must give… Continue
