What are the best things about art fairs

So much other art to see and share, people, colors.

Best show ever and why

I can't answer yet, as this is my first year showing.

Who referred you to ArtFairInsiders.com? Please be specific.

Online search.

What is one fun fact about yourself?

I used to be a commercial diver in nuclear power plants after 15 years as a recreational dive instructor and cave diver. My digital octopus paintings are a nod to those times.

  • I looked at the images you posted here and your work has a lovely gentle charm! I like it very much and I know there is a market for it.  Your work will appeal to the sweet fantasy people and to folks looking to decorate a child’s room.  There aren’t very many artists doing that so you won’t have a ton of competition.  I’ve made a living doing shows for the last forty years and could not have done it without making prints of my work.  If you need to find a printer go to your local shows and ask artist with prints who they would recommend.  A lot of artists do their own but not everyone.  Prints will give you a more affordable price range increasing your chance of sales.  Be careful how you frame your pieces.  Presentation does matter!

Buy the pop up tent and ask experienced artists how to secure it.  There are tricks to making a tent stay on the ground!  Buy the better tent as soon as you can - just start learning.  You don’t have to have pro panels.  Your work would be at home on old distressed screen doors.  Get creative and thrifty.

Begin learning how to sell with your local shows.  Talking to your potential customers makes a big big difference - engage with them and don’t give up.  Many customers will first walk a show and later come back to buy.  You don’t know who’s coming back so don’t get discouraged and stop talking.  Often a 10am show doesn’t start buying till 1 or 2 in the afternoon.

Good luck and I hope to see you on the street somewhere!

  • I am interested. For that reason I am looking around for a good deal :) I have contacted three people I think. I've also been reading up on booths to see what my best bet is. Cost, material, etc. Because most of my shows will be here in the Midwest and we know how the weather is, I think I have to go for something sturdy, which is more costly, so I have to make sure I am making a good choice.
